Moving to Chicago. Where is the best place to live?

Me and the wife coming from Seattle, late 30's, no kids, working in the heart of downtown, LOVE Chicago nightlife, but also solace from the city. Want to take the train into downtown to work and play on the weekends (without much hassle - is 30 minutes by train, one-way, unreasonable?). Pretty good incomes so can afford higher end rent, if necessary. Thinking we'll rent (condo?) to start. Eventually we'll buy and maybe move further out when we fill up on the nightlife. Yup, we want it all. Any suggestions from the good people of Chicago?

Yes i can help i lived in chi. all my life and been every wear i think you would like Evanston,Glenview,Wilmette,Highland Park,Glenco,any of those towns along the N shore,they are up in price but (No slums) and all are real close to lake Michigan

Well I live in Winnetka, which is on the north shore. Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette, Highland Park, etc. are all super if you can afford it. Wilmette is close to downtown and has some condos I think. The north shore is also a great place to raise a family so if you're thinking of kids eventually I would definitely look into this area!

Downtown Chi-town you would want to look into apartments along the lake!! Those are the nicest and most expensive. Lake Point Tower is pretty nice and right by Navy Pier.
