We had our truck broke into the first night arriving to indianapolis...

...moving here. 10 thousand dollars? We had over 10 thousand dollars in jewelry and coin collection birthday gifts and around 30 credit cards and other such items. We contacted the police dept. and the officer who tookthe report around 9-12 times over a years period. We never received a single return call by any one... last month i called the police last month to get the case number i had lost it. over around two years now and the desk person gives me the number then i ask her if there was any news on that case number......We then find out that the grand larceny was never assigned to a dective and never investigated she then gave me a captians name and number to call to find out why....i called left our names and case # twice no return calls from him..........we'll i'm looking at a 1000 dollar county tax i have to file and pay and paid the same last year....my question is do i still have to pay this money they're not doing their job so would i have a ground to stand on who would i contact about challenging this tax???

You still have to pay the IRS even though you disagree with the war in Iraq. So too, you would have to pay the county tax for INCOMPETENT fools in the police department. You will find that sometimes you have to badger them or know someone. Get a lawyer if I were you or talk to the mayor.

You could try "taxation without representation" plea. Its apt.
I believe your story...I once ran a block to call the fire dept. to report an electrical fire while vacationing in Lake Tahoe. Nobody showed up.
