moving from Kansas to Missouri and registering your car. What is the process?

I am trying to move from kansas to downtown kansas city missouri. is there a time limit in registering your car when you move and if you delay (or renew in kansas anyways when it comes due) what are the penalties???? I just wonder if anyone can speek from experience, I am trying to move in june but i am considering waiting till october to register in the new state when my tags normally come up for renew. mainly i do not have the time or the money to deal with these issues or be able to deal with an expection till then or later. i donot plan to drive my car for ill be walking to work. ill be only driving to get groceries.
