How can I get a couch from New York to Maryland without renting a moving truck?

I don't know anyone who can drive a moving truck and I kinda don't want to pay someone to do it either. And freight or whatever company ships huge things like couches and cars can run me about an extra $300 bucks, and that's money I only want to spend if I don'nt have a choice since I'm already dishing out money for the couch itself. Any suggestions? I was thinking of renting an SUV, but I don't know how I can get something to attach to the back of it so I can transport the couch. Please help!

Strap the couch to the roof, just be sure of good weather!

Re: How can I get a couch from New York to Maryland without renting a moving truck?

they kept asking charles manson how he got the school bus up to spawn ranch since its just tight jeep roads and insaine bolders n drop offs. every time his reply was "i flew it up there". but that doesnt help you a bit does it here's what I would do... U-haul has small motorcycle trailers that have 10 inch sides and a tiny tail gate, get some nylon rope from Home Depot and ask a boy scout in town to help yu tie it down. they rent for about $25/24 hrs. (the trailers, not the boy scouts). One way rental is a different story. heres another idea. call rental yards in the area your moving, ask if they have any equipment they have bought or need returned from where you are now and see if they will cut yu a deal on helping them move their equipment back to their yard. ive done this a couple times to great savings... Good Luck!
