| Ice fishing
I used to fish, if you want to call it that. Fish would see me above the water, laugh and move on. Now ice fishing seems odd to me. Is Ice fishing a winter sport up in the great state of minnesota? If so, I have questions

Yes, Ice fishing is a winter sport. Some have tried it in the summer, but others called it swimming. I'm just giving you a bad time.Ice fishing is a great past time enjoyed by a lot of people. People get real ellaborate with their ice fishing shacks. While some will just take a shipping container and cut a door. Make a trap door in the floor, bore through the ice. Others go a little overboard. They build their shanty's from scratch, comes complete with a bunk or two for sleeping, a range for frying up your catch, a heater, maybe a couple of windows, even an easy chair so you can fish in comfort. Our hired man on the farm used to ice fish a lot. He'd drive his truck out on the ice, bore a hole, then get back in his truck and fish out the window with the heater running. One year, he kind of dozed off and when he woke up he realized his truck was setting in about 10 inches of water. He tried to drive out and everything was up hill so he just spun. Ice cracked and then he had to explain to his insurance agent what happened to his truck. hahaha It seems to me, that I can catch the bigger stuff through the ice. Maybe if I fished with a boat I could do the same thing, but no boat so I fish off the bank until the ice gets thick enough.

What I want to know is at the end of the season and the ice is melting, well, if someone is too late, well, I guess I want to know how many of these shacks are on the botton of the lake?

| Re: Ice fishing They are not allowed on the lakes after a certain date which differs slightly depending what part of the state you are in, March 1st around the area where I lived. If the owner does not remove it before that date, the Department of Natural Resources prosecutes the owner, then confiscates or destroys it. I saw them get burned sometimes on Lake Minnetonka when I was younger.

| Re: Ice fishing There's a few that get float tested but not often. The biggest problem we always had was anchoring it down or the wind would move it when you weren't there.
