Why doesn't every American move to Minneapolis, Minnesota?

Just imagine how nice it would be if everybody all took on the voyage of moving to Minnesota to all live together surrounded by 10,000 lakes.

We'd relocate the US capital to Minneapolis, one of the world's most beautiful cities. You get sculpture gardens, building crosswalks, a light rail system, First Avenue, Spaghetti factory.

And we'd relocate the National Archives to the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.

In the summer: Every single American happy living in cabins on lakes and swimming, canoeing, daydreaming, watching long sunsets, sailing, arts and crafts.

In the winter: cross-country snow skiing, ice skating on frozen lakes, playing in the snow.

We'd also have to fix the I-35 W bridge since EVERYBODY will be living in Minneapolis, and every other US city will be a ghost town exhibit because everyone will be moving to Minnesota.

Lots of Minnesota money grants from the US government to expand all highways to 50 lanes on each side.

I'm sorry, I'm just a HUGE lover of Minnesota

I love MN, but that is the worst idea ever. MN would lose its culture. Traffic would get much worse, crime would go way up, and bad attitudes would be brought in from other places. It would turn into a much worse version of Florida.

SHHH! We don't want everyone to know how awesome it is here. It's a secret! People think we live in igloos and it makes me laugh.

Minnesota is beautiful and has so many wonderful people, but it's too cold!! Sometimes I miss the crystal clear, pristine lakes...until I remember that it's only in July and August that people are able to tolerate the temperature of the water!

T.S. - Northwestern Florida is still an excellent place to live...as opposed to other areas of the state. Navarre Beach is still the 'best kept secret in Florida' and it's so true.

As for the igloos, Corlyx, well, they are so much easier to clean than the huts down here.

Just for the record it was 86 degrees today. Slightly on the warm side but nothing out of the ordinary. It's only really cold for a couple of months.

I guess it depends on your definition of REALLY COLD.... I'm a wuss, now. I get grumpy when we can't swim in the ocean in November. Ahhhhhh...the good life. You know I'm just messing with you, Corlyx!

Actually it tends not to snow as much once it gets really cold which is in January/February. February is statistically the driest month of the year I think. Really cold is when the snow gets crunchy under your feet and even though you are wearing tons of layers, your pants freeze stiff. It's the point when although you are wearing gloves and boots your fingers and toes are totally numb and you can barely move them. If your ears aren't covered, forget it, they are frozen solid, in pain and will burn like fire once you finally warm up. It's the time of year when you have to look down everywhere you go not only to keep the wind from freezing your face off, but so that you don't slip on a huge patch of ice and hurt yourself along the way.

When March comes around and it gets to 40 degrees, we're practically sunbathing around here. Short sleeve shirts, no jackets, no joke. It may be sad but once you're accustomed to high temperatures below zero degrees for awhile, anything around freezing feels like a heat wave.

I always get a kick out of it when I can say it's colder here than the South Pole (which is quite often), but I suppose it's not really a fair comparison since our winter is their summer.

So it gets below 30 there as a high? Yeah too cold for me.
