I thought people might be interested in the new light rail transit project in the works for Minneapolis St. Paul. The Central Corridor LRT line will connect the downtown cores of Minneapolis and St. Paul along University Avenue. When completed it will also connect the new Twins Stadium, the Metrodome, the new Gopher football stadium, and the University of Minnesota. The planned route connects to the existing Hiawatha light rail line completed in 2004 and will connect to the new Northstar Commuter Rail line when it's completed. I believe most of the funding has been approved and it has a good deal of support. It's supposed to start construction sometime next year, and should take five years to complete.
It's good to see our region continue to support sustainable development projects like this. This line will really do a lot to connect the two city centers, and should be especially beneficial to St. Paul.
