Lake Minnetonka

The Lake Minnetonka area is one of my favorite locations in the Minneapolis metro area. It is also the area where I grew up. The lake is 14,000 acres in size with 200 miles of shoreline. It is a nice area to live in, and the lake can be very enjoyable during both the summer and winter, especially if you are into swimming, boating, personal watercraft, water skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, fishing, ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, or anything else that can be done on a lake. It is on the west side of the metro area which is generally considered the more affluent side by locals.

The deepest spot is around 130 feet. There are some drop offs. I am not sure about springs. It is the source of the Minnehaha Creek which is known for Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, the creek flows from Lake Minnetonka to the Mississippi River.

Re: Lake Minnetonka

Did not know minnehaha creek started over there. It’s weird I was watching the news last night an they wear doing a bit on some retired guys ice fishing on Minnetonka, one had built a custom camper type trailer looked just like a cabin inside he called it the Toshmahall, he had about 50 k in it .seems like no shortage of money around there. Growing up around there you an your buddies must of spent a good deal of time at the lake, fishing , boating ,swimming, watching the girls at the beach.

One of the things that make it so attractive is it's a large body of water close to a large metro area Minneapolis , there are a lot of expensive houses on the lake an some pretty wealthy people living there .it seems Minnetonka is in the news at least once a month.
Closest I ever got to it was long lake an Delano the speed shop where are parts came from . a friend has a tanning place in mound on the west side of the lake , he got there before the big price jumps in housing . T S grew up around there he should be able to tell you more.

If you are planning on camping or something like that you will probably be better off at a different lake farther north in the state, somewhere outside the Minneapolis metro area. Lake Minnetonka is great for people that live in the area, but it is not as visitor friendly as it was a very long time ago. Most of the old resorts are gone and there is really not many places for visitors to stay around it anymore.

Somewhere around the Lake Mille Lacs area might be a better choice for a vacation in the state. There is multiple resorts and campsites in the area.

Mound is where I lived from 1985-2000. I went to Mound-Westonka High School there. It is a decent small suburb of about 10,000 people on the lake. I enjoyed living in the area, and still miss it a little bit every time I drive through. Real estate really went up a lot there since 2000. My parents old house has almost doubled in value since they sold it in early 2000.

I lived on this large island connected by two bridges.
