MISSISSIPPI'S GULF COAST - Get ready for a history making premiere ON Mississippi's Gulf Coast April 22-25, as world-class powerboat races come to Biloxi.

The newly formed Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association presents Smokin' the Sound, a thrilling competition that is made up of the largest and most expensive powerboats in the world. Leading up to this tournament will be several days of pre-event activities, including parties, practices, and bikini contests.

Race teams are expected to arrive April 22, with kickoff races in Biloxi on April 23. This meet will be in the waters between the Biloxi Peninsula and Deer Island, with straight-aways allowing boats to reach speeds of 135 miles per hour.

Viewing options are extraordinary. With a number of ideal viewing sites, including the tops of Casino Row parking garages, fans couldn't be better positioned for the race.

Racers will compete for fat purses, with the biggest prize awarding $50,000. There are four OSS classes, and each will participate equally in this prize, amounting to $12,500 for each class. On-the-spot payment makes this a very unusual contest.

A few weeks ago, Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association (OSS) Chief Referee Mike Tomlinson and Race Control Director Ray Standley visited the Coast to review the Smokin' the Sound race site.

"I must say what we found was amazing," said Race Control Director Ray Standley during his visit. "I'm looking forward to a great time and a great race."

Everything seems to be happening during the time we'll be about 1500 miles away! Anyway, Mississippi is definitely the up and coming 'hot spot' of the south. Pan, how is your wife doing? Does she like it there, so far?

Yes Kimber she does. She started working at IHOP here, and after her first day they offered her a Shift Managers postion.

Yeah I think it is too.. with in 5 years this place is gonna be hoppin.

Im still waiting to start work, I have to take this Casino LIC. thing.. not sure how it works cause I have never done one before.. but it seems that some casinos can only go on certain days, and there is one day they do a class and do finger prints and take a picture, and then you have to wait a day and go back a couple days later to pick up your LIC. My first day should be April 5th.

I went around to the other Casinos.. Boomtown, has to be the rudest one I have seen in the area.. the people there dont smile, they are rude and it feels like a large arcade.. I dont recommend it. The Grand Casino feels and looks like a Old School Vegas Casino.. live band, mob looking pit bosses.. but it is rather nice, and its buffet looks good. ( the grand is a tad costly its 22.95 - The boomtowns buffet is 18.55 )

Beau Revage, is the big fancy casino here.. all the bells and whistles. And you pay for them too. the IP or Imperial Pallace is a nice Casino and it has great food. The Buffet, I dont know yet.. never made it that far, but i'll let you all know. The Isle Capri, is well kinda low end, compaired to thier other casinos I have seen.. they need to step it up some.. but they do have a very cool bar amd ice cream place inside it.. The Island View is the one near my house. Im not too impressed by it.. but I have not really explored it as much.

Hard Rock is opening soon, as is Treasure Bay... well Treasure Bay is open, just not fully yet.. they lost the pirate ship and that sucks.. cause it was really cool. The Den the little resturant they have is good.. and not too bad on the prices. If you have any questions about the Casinos or the area.. let me know.. I'll do what I can to let you know.

Re: Smokin The Sound!

I'm glad you both are happy with the area...it makes a big difference if everyone likes it!

When we lived in Bossier City/Shreveport we had an Isle of Capri and Boomtown Casinos. Even in Louisiana, Boomtown had a slightly higher-class, snobbish atmosphere. We had fun at both, though, cuz that's what we do!

I've never been to a Hard Rock Cafe...which was kind of silly, because they had one in San Antonio, but it was too close to Howl at the Moon and we always ended up there!

Offshore power boats are different than the hydroplanes . most have a 2 or 3 man crew
An the boats a totally different , they are long like the cigarette type boats ,some are single hull an some are a two hull catamaran type the bigger ones are multi engine they
Are made to run in rougher water an open sea’s unlike the hydro.

They won’t do over 200 like a unlimited hydro but you can get 130 +
