Trains go Chugga Chugga Clank Clank WOOooOT!

I found that one of the most relaxing things is the 3am train. Off in the distance it blows its whistle to let us all know its coming.. far off enough that for us its a sweet lullaby.. the air is calm and quiet here at 3am, so the clank clank of its wheels on the tracks is just a sweet song it sings... the humm of its mighty engine just a steady beat it all goes too.. I dont know why but it is comforting to me to hear it... if I am not already asleep, it will lull me into it.. I have been saving electricity by having the window open and another down the hall.. we get that nice gulf breeze in our window and its cool enough still to be beat the humidity... so I can hear the train clear as fine crystal.

Funny how something like a train can make you feel safe and warm inside.. huh.

I know what you mean... Where I lived before I could hear it a few miles away. It was so soothing. UNTIL.... I found out it carried hazardous waste!!!! Then it was just kinda creepy.

Where I live now... No trains..but the sound of rain sooths me

i always love the sound of the trains and it gives me a fuzzy feeling to smell the smoke from a steam train. I love the sound of the rain too. But what I love most is the sound of footsteps in the snow...

I like it Pan. Sounds like the distraction of the ever-running train allowed you to get in touch with you inner self. Far Out!
And there's the relief of being someplace where you can breathe freer - having left the windblown corner behind where you felt trapped.

Heh, I was about to reply to the do something manly part.. and you removed it.. lol. I love that Snickers Commercial..

At the old house ( my Grandmas ) we had a Tin porch covering the back patio, my room was the room under that porch.. I used to love rain when it came and danced off that tin roof. to some it may of been a racket, but to me it was home, safe and secure.. soothing.. I love to hear the rain as well.. And one thing we dont hear much here like we do in Corpus is the sound of waves crashing on shore.. I used to love camping on the beaches in Texas and falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves. No camping on Mississippi Beaches though.. so If I want to do that I guess I have to head to Texas every now and then.

Oh, I do apologize Pan. I wrote it and it kept me awake half the night thinking about that teacher fella on "Beavis and Butthead" who sang such songs as "Lesbian Seagull" and I was thinking "Geez, I'm saying this stuff to a cop-type"! Not even a fellow musician (that I know of)! Yeah - it hurt grabbing that patch and yanking - guess I shouldda done chest-hair like the commercial. ( )
Glad you're liking it Pan. We can sometimes hear the surf from our place.

Really big o' you, Mate - but must admit I wasn't thinking about whether I offended you or not - I was thinking of how I was coming off!
What I mean to say is, I enjoyed reading your rythymic interpretation of the train rumble and whistle - found it poetic and artsy and even soothing.
Peace

I have always Like the sound of a hard rain On a metal roof. That has the same effect on me as your train. And they both can carry acid. LOL

I also love the sound of a train in the distance. I use to hear it in Punta Gorda early in the morning. We haven't had a chance to open the windows here at night yet. I would love to hear a train in the middle of the night.
Even during the day would be ok by me. It does relax you. It's like hearing waves from the ocean or birds singing in the early morning.

I miss the waves beating against the sand of the beach. Have to go get my fix soon! Used to go so often and I lived much farther from the ocean....what is up with that? Mabye just because it was so much warmer.

Re: Trains go Chugga Chugga Clank Clank WOOooOT!

Thanks Azi.
Several years ago, I'd just gone thru a divorce and took an auditing job in a motel. Took a room there, too. My window faced west and this was in Wyoming. The tracks disappeared to the west - as did the trains and the cars on the interstate. Could see about 40 miles and I spent many long, newly empty nights staring at tail-lights and watching the headlight of the trains light the hills in front as everything moved away from me and as I whispered a good-bye to every thing moving that way with a sense of wanderlust. It helped dispel the clouds that tried to settle over my eyes and I felt sometimes like a fall leaf in the wind.
That's why I can already feel your Mississippi train, Pan.
Hopped a few trains in my day too - that's how I first met Texas.
Peace
