Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam is pretty impressive. If you visit Vegas you have to take the tour.

Ya know, the thing that gets almost every guy I take there excited? ...and for some reason, most of the women aren't.

...it's those huge overflow tunnel openings that are located on both sides of the dam! (...come to your own conclusion about the gender difference) But yeah, all the males just oooh and awe over those huge holes! (?) --but for the women, they look at it and just shrug their shoulders. It's a very ominous sight. They're massive! We all are amazed at the amount of concrete that went into making the dam itself but then when we see those huge round tunnel openings, it's the fact of not only how much concrete was used but exactly HOW it was done. It sends a tingling feeling down your back.

A lot of people miss seeing them. I don't hear them emphasized that much during the tour by the guides urging folks to go out to see them. You actually have to out of your way on your own to go see them.

Those of you who haven't seen them, the one on the Nevada side is very easily seen by walking out into the employee parking area near the visitor center. The one on the Arizona side, you actually have to cross traffic approaching the dam and sneak into a restricted area to view it.

So, anybody who has never been to the dam or those going again, be sure to walk over and view these things. It's a sight you'll never forget ...for the guys, anyway. :p
