sights to see

I have been to 4-corners, the aztec ruins and the cliff dwellers on the mesa. May be going back soon. Am I missing something else to see when I am northern NM?

Re: sights to see

Have you been to Taos? Very quaint.

And Santa Fe... go eat at The Cowgirl.. the locals love it and the food is great. But be ready to eat outside! They had the wrap party for The Longest Yard there when I was there last..

I can't think of anything other than that, that is worth seeing. But then maybe I missed something every time I go through there. I mostly go south to visit family.

Well Taos is nice. Santa Fe is great. You have to see the Palace of the Governors for sure. THere is so many other great museums as well. Bandelier National Park is a place to go as well. It's by Los Alamos.

Okay, this is off topic but I just got to say it:) Dufferz that pic with you (I'm assuming) and the gun. Very scary. Maybe a pic with just you...until folks get to know you...Kinda looks like you're on the edge:) Maybe it is just me. I'm afraid of guns.

Re: sights to see

Bandelier National Monument, north of Santa Fe. It's probably much cooler for kids, crawling around in the little "bubble caves" in the canyon wall; I was first there when I was 11.

If you're into that sort of thing, the tourist exhibits at Los Alamos can be fascinating.

Used to be that Sadies in ABQ had green-chile cheese-chicken enchiladas to die for. I was last there in 1990 or so, so they might be long gone. At the time they were attached to a bowling alley.

EDIT: depending on how far south you're going, the VLA outside Socorro might be worth a side trip, too.

Izzy,

As you can tell, I changed the picture. It actually was a picture of Mr. Rogers with a gun. Thought it was pretty funny, but it was too small to really see, so my kitty took Mr. R's place.

Re: sights to see

Well I like the kitty better...just seems more approachable:) Is it Izzy...or do you have another cat? We have two cats, and a dog. We never go looking for a cat. They just find us. Our blk & white cat was left at our last home by the owners before us. She is a great mouser and moved with us to our new house. She doesn't like kids though. So she sleeps in the garage or outside depending on weather. It has been so cold lately that she has decided to tolerate the kids and sleep inside.:)

Our other cat came into our garage at six weeks ate the other cats food and stayed. She is strictly indoors, her and the dog play. She likes kids. Well back to work.

I forget to stay on topic. Sorry. I have looked at New Mexico as our retirement state. But I read some where that it is a really poor state. That the poverty is very noticeable, is it?

If you're into Mesa Verde, drive west from Cortez into Hovenweep National Monument. This large area is almost devoid of tourists, so you can be alone in the ruins. It can be a very contemplative experience. (You probably need one! )

In the Navaho reservations (NW corner: Gallup to Farmington) and in a few small towns like Espanola, it certainly is.

In bustling Albuquerque and Santa Fe, in retirement hot-spots like Las Cruces or Silver City, not at all. (OK, there are neighborhoods, but ya gotta look for them.)

I have been to farmington, aztec and the 4-corners area. Seems like most of the land is reservation land. This land looks very 3rd world, similar to what I saw in Mexico. With that said, if you have enought money to retire without working, and you want a dry high elevation place to live, there are homes in Farmington that rival most high end areas of the SW.
