What we loved: Miles of trails in the city along the Rio Grande's undeveloped banks and through cottonwood forests. More than 300 sunny days a year to enjoy cycling or hiking.

Albuquerque offers resort-town ambience, a boomtown economy and cow-town prices. And the city's laid-back pace gives you plenty of time to enjoy the sunsets. Shades of pinks, blues, reds and oranges -- best enjoyed from atop the Sandia Mountains -- frame the desert skyline with stark beauty.

Re: Albuquerque #3 Smart Place to Live

Albuquerque is nice but after living in Santa Fe, Alb. is the big city with too much traffic and too many people. :)

I don't care for Alb at all... I found it very unappealing when I was there last.

Re: Albuquerque #3 Smart Place to Live

I didn't see anything very appealing about it either, MyAzi, the one time I was there. I think sometimes a city will get wind of one of these "Best Place to Live" projects in a major magazine, and then slip a little baksheesh to the editors to come out high in the rankings.

C'mon, guys! The Best Thing about ABQ is that it's only a short hop from Santa Fe!
Also, it has a kinda neat Old Town area and museum. And UNM, of course.
Anyplace that has jobs and mountains and sunshine... well, is leaps ahead of most places in my book.

Re: Albuquerque #3 Smart Place to Live

I just watched a Forbes Best Places to Live and Work show on the Fine Living channel and Albuquerque was rated #1 for people looking to start a new business or career.

Re: Albuquerque #3 Smart Place to Live

I think Forbes does that to keep the economy moving around. Make the investments...clean up and in 6 months say it is someplace else... Wish I had been that smart!

Old Town is fabulous and charming. Plus, they have some great museums and , of course, the ballon fest.

Re: Albuquerque #3 Smart Place to Live

our dear friends bought 90 acres of land in Las Vegas, NM. They are building a ranch...they showed us lots of pics of the area and it is beautiful. As soon as they sell their house here they will be moving...sniff.
