I may be getting a job transfer to Raleigh, NC. I was wondering if anyone has some advice on places to live. I am not familiar with the area at all, but have been told to look in Apex, Carey and Holly Springs. Also, is this a nice area to live? I will be moving from the Mid-Hudson Valley area of New York.

Raleigh is booming city, along with the entire Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) region metro area. The center city is seeing a big re-growth and more tall towers and high quality amenities have been coming here. I would highly disagree with whoever told you to look at those sprawling, congested (& boring) suburbs like Cary, Apex, & HollySprings. They are basically nothing but cul-de-sacs ande oversized shopping centers. Instead I recommend Raleigh proper itself...in and around downtown. Particularly if your job is IN Raleigh, why would you want to drive far between home and work? I prefer downtown where the traffic is more manageable and you can walk to cool restaurants, shops, bars, etc. |

It depends on what you are looking for. If you like beautifully landscaped roads, a variety of home styles, lots of dining and shopping, great schools and lots of outdoor activities, then Cary is your place. I love it here.
