Tornado watches and warnings

I have been in North Carolina(Charlotte) since Friday and I have been under tornado watches and warnings. Is this is a normal thing? I don't know if I can deal with this. I'm here looking for a home but at this moment I'm getting a little sick thinking about moving here. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Are my fears valid?

Hello, my friend! I've lived in NC all my life and can tell you, yes, sometimes we have tornados. I have never (and I am OLD ) been in an area where one touched down. I think the weather people here are extremely careful about issuing watches and warnings since they totally missed one that touched down a few years ago, so they may go for overkill at times.
I am about in the middle of the state so you are about 3 1/2-4 hours west of me. Most of the time you shouldn't have to worry about hurricanes....though some have come through there, I believe Hugo hit Charlotte and left us high and dry. Weather is so fickle
Hope your house hunting is going OK. I have missed you!

Doesn't this also depend on the time of year? Kinda like snow in summer the weather has to be just right, and a certain time of year correct? Well I mean like not year round but Not as common in some times of year.

Well this is not my cup of sweettea for sure. I'm ready to get on a plane back to Phoenix in the morning and forget this whole idea. My husband is ready to ring my neck. Nothing bothers him. I'm sitting here all dressed and waiting to go to the first floor of my hotel if something happens.

Re: Tornado watches and warnings

I am used to tornado watches from living in Minnesota, but we never had them in January there. We had basements to hide in also if needed. I have still never seen one in my life though.

Driving home from work friday was the first time that I ever heard the emergency broadcast system used for something other than an annoying test. I guess there was a tornado somewhere in Gaston county, which is west of Charlotte.

It must be because I'm in town. LOL I came in Friday and we had one and Sunday a tornado watch. I hope this is not a sign that I should go home.

BTW I finally found I house I liked. We bought one today in Huntersville, it's a killer plan. It reminds me of Arizona homes. It has a side courtyard that looks like it's part of the inside of the house and it has french doors that connect from the livingroom, familyroom and entrance hall. We are going to put a lighted fountain in the center of the courtyard. It has a kitchen that looks like it should be on the cooking network and seperate butlers pantry. 3300 sqft under 300,000.It's an M/I home. They really give you a lot of upgrades and square footage for a very competitive price. Nice community and close to my BIRKDALE and LAKE NORMAN!!!

Nice. I think I looked at that development recently, and somewhat remember that model. 1 exit before Birkdale coming from Charlotte, take a right, then a couple miles down the road on the left side?

Yeah it's exit 23 and then I'd say about 2.5 miles east. The crime in that zip is coming out pretty low. 2 for violent crime and 3 for property. 3 being the national avg. We were there all day and it was busy as can be with buyers. Lots and lots of New Yorkers living there. If you know anything about New Yorkers they are nosy and that's good they are always suspicious and on the look out. LOL

I liked those homes. They had nice designs. High living room ceilings and a big bonus room that would make a good home theater or something like that.

Yeah we got the bonus room I'll put my treadmill in there and a big screen TV and maybe some theatre chairs.
