a southern accent. Is it real? I know this girl from PA, she's a friend of a friend, I don't talk to her much but we've talked a few times, mostly on yahoo voice chat, which my friends and I sometimes use to chat with each other. I've never met this girl in real life but my friends know her very well and they really like her. Anyways, she moved to North Carolina about a month ago, and now she suddenly has a noticeable southern accent. When she lived in PA, I never heard her talk with a southern accent. My friend actually believes that she’s picked up the accent, but I’m not so sure. Is it possible for someone who has lived in northern Pennsylvania all their life to move to North Carolina and pick up a southern accent in less than 2 months… or is she a weirdo? um no chicken, I'm not jealous, I just think it's strange that she's suddenly talking with a deep southern accent, when she lived in Pennsylvania all her life. |

It can happen. I know somebody that moved to the UK and sounds more british all the time. I had a couple people tell me that I started to get a very slight southern accent in the 9 months that I lved in Charlotte, North Carolina. I couldn't really tell, but I did really have to stop myself from using southern words sometimes. It seems easy to pick up things like that without even thinking about it when you are surrounded by it every day.

I've been to Scotland a couple of times, for two weeks each visit. After the first week, I noticed that I had started talking more like the locals. It was weird, but it can and does happen.

I lived in Virgina for a year...I'm a CA person. It took three days for me to understand what folks were saying. Then it became a clear a bell. When I moved back to CA...everyone said I had a strong southern accent. Add that to my Okie lingo and nobody could understand me:) Took a while to wear off. Izzy
