Does anyone know if North Carolina has any Christmas tree farms where people can cut their own Christmas trees? Any around the Charlotte area to be more specific?

I know this was asked some time ago but just in case others out there might be interested. There is a wonderful place just outside of Charlotte, NC called: Penland Christmas Tree Farm Steve & Judy Penland 6457 Campbell Road York, SC 29745 They have Virginia Pine, White Pine, Leyland Cypress, Eastern Red Cedar, and Carolina Sapphire Other attractions: Ball & Burlap, Fresh cut Fraser Fir, Fresh Wreaths, Free Hot Chocolate, Coffee, and weekend hayrides to fields. They usually open around the 3rd week of November. PHONE: (803) 366-7605 EMAIL: spenland68@bellsouth.net They've been around for years and they are just really nice people (great way to spend a day with the family) |

There are various types of "Christmas" trees in the Carolinas but the Frazier Fir has to be the biggest claim to fame out this way. We go 4x4ing in the snow every year with some friends and try to cut our own. If the snow level is up high and not too deep, we can usually get a Nobel Fir. If the snow level is low and the snow is deep, we get a Douglas Fir, or go to a tree farm and get a Nobel. Tree permits are only $5 here in Oregon.

Up into the forest service roads southeast of Estacada. One way of getting there is to to head past Estacada about 10 miles, turn right onto Memaloose Road and go up, up, up until you find the tree you want. Many times we come in from the other side. It can get busy up there and be a pain passing vehicles going the other way when there is 3 feet of snow and ditches on the sides. But, its fun.
