Hey Panterro, how are you liking Portland?

How was the move? And how are you liking Portland? Did you enjoy that nasty weather we had on Saturday? Just non-stop rain here in Oregon, eh (hudge, nudge, wink, wink)

Not there yet.. Mid March. Still packing all my crap-ola. =)

Hey did you see that news story on the old guy that is exposing himself to kids on a school bus everyday, and the police are powerless to do anything.. If I live in his neiborhood, can I kick the ever livin crap outta him and maybe the police will look the other way? (Up there in Portland, I think I saw it on FOX news.)

Still a tad worried on moving on only 5 grand. Got kids to support and its a tad scary. But I think the move will be a good one.

I have not seen that story, and I have no idea why the police would be powerless. Occasionaly they catch some perve exposing himself and they slap him with all kinds of stuff and put him away for a couple years, PLUS they have to register as a sex offender after words. Never heard of anyone getting away with it if the police knew who they were.

Re: Hey Panterro, how are you liking Portland?

That is in Rainier, not the Portland area.

Nudity is not a crime. In Eugene, OR women can go around topless on the streets if they want. At least that was the law, they might have changed it. There is also a nude beach near a State Park here (Rooster Rock), and nudity at the Oregon Country Fair, and at the tons of hot springs. But if the guy was fondling himself, then he needs to be locked up.

Go to Europe and nudity is very open. It is only here in the puritan based society of the USA that has made something natural a perversion. It is only a perversion if it is sexual....

Pan, I wanted to take a moment. Since I'm still new to Oregon, I wanted to give you some of my first impressions.

The people are so dang normal and upbeat it's almost scary!! I've been living around the country lately and keep running into pockets of folks whose manner reminds me of why I stopped living in certain areas. There's a lot of negativity around the country.
Don't seem to see it here!
From the waitresses to the grocery clerks. From the people who pump your gas (no self-serve here) to the people who answer the phones at businesses, from the neighbors to strangers on the beach or sidewalk, these folks are nice! Friendly! Helpful! After my stints across the country, I don't know if I can bring myself up to snuff! So normal it's scary!
The food has been fantastic. I've only really treated myself once - at a casino buffet - the rest has all been whatever I thought I could afford ... and I have been greatly satisfied! Lots of food per serving. Best fries I've had for decades!
My brother lives up in Portland and has lived here for nearly forever. Even his crabby-self is abnormally upbeat for the rest of the country as I've seen it lately.
I really hope you can see your way clear to get your family up here - I'm thinking you won't ever regret it. We've walked in nearly every rain so far and not frozen - wouldn't dare do that in Wyoming.
Consider wet-shoes though. You'll want them for comfort.
Peace and good luck!

Re: Hey Panterro, how are you liking Portland?

You should post in a new thread reviews of the restaurants that you have been hitting at the coast. Always good to hear the good and bad of places.

Hi PD! Start the thread - I'll join. I can be the "cheap-eater's rater".

Maybe start an in-state travel-thread too.
For example, we just took a spin down to Otter Crest - just south of Depoe Bay and while there's a whole little road, we just pulled off the 101 there. The giant waves crashing against the cliffs were outta sight!

I find that, unlike other Ocean-ized areas where I have lived, body-surfing may not be wise in Oregon!!!
