OK, I know that meth is a big issue in Oregon. The controversy about it is hot, and even in Washington we get word that meth is a problem. So, what's causing locally? is there something that is driving it?

So, this is a made up problem, or at least over inflated? Wow. I could not imagine anyone in the press doing such a thing!

I have friend in Or and Yes Duff I spent a few months living in Yachats... and I didn't notice much more of a problem than any other place. And my friend says she hasn't heard much about it.

Meth has been a problem all over. It's really made a "meth" of some peoples' lives. I don't get it - seems a real waste but I once read that it's primarily a "small-town" item. I know this is no longer accurate and CA probably already outgrew it and has moved on to something else. Recent rumors say that the pot-traffickers in Mexico are lacing the pot with meth - which would cause a really unfair buzz for some and a welcome addiction for others. People have sought artificial means of escape since the Vikings first brewed Mead (honey-wine), especially the poor and disassociated groups. Meth-heads aren't going to be out-and-about all that much - the surface problem is behind closed curtains. As with any addition, however, it re-surfaces in unseemly ways, i.e., standard break-ins for cash, fewer people getting "on their feet", shootings over drug-deals gone bad, etc. It's a problem here in WY, was a problem back in OH where I just spent some time and stories keep coming in from "all over". If it's not a problem in your area - great!! |
