Moving to Milwaukie/Oregon City area to attend college: where should I rent?

Hi. I will begin nursing school at Clackamas Community College's main campus in Oregon City this September (2008). I'm interested in renting apartments in the Milwaukie/Oregon City area but I'm not familiar with the area. Anyone out there recommend neighborhoods with affordable housing that are not ghetto or too red? I've lived in Portland since I've been here in Oregon and no nothing of the demographics in the 'burbs.

I know the areas well, and even went to CCC for a year. I prefer PCC, but CCC is a good school. Between Milwaukie and Oregon City, there is no "ghetto" area. Milwaukie is nice, as it is close to downtown Portland, and Oregon City. Oregon City is nice as it is a nice friendly town, but if you like to do stuff in Portland, it is a 30+ minute drive with no traffic, and over an hour on the bus. Gladstone is also a nice area, but not much there other than car dealerships and a Harley dealer.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Wow, I am from the class of '88 nursing! Look to the hilltop area, cheaper than the beavercreek area although it is not as nice, good luck!

Beavercreek? That is in the middle of nowhere and not many places to rent, unless you are referring to Beavercreek Rd, but that is the hilltop. Oregon City's population has doubled since 1990 and is now 30,000. It is a really nice bedroom community with many new houses in the $500k range. It is not the white trash redneck and stoner town it was in the 80's and early 90's.

You went to CCC in '88?

PDX, you are right, I should had said bevercreek rd. Yep I went to CCC, lived down the hill on Pearl St. Used to be the Bug Killers (Pest Control) neighbor but I think it is now some type of spa or something. Worked over at Will Falls Hospital, I think the closed it a few years ago. Small world huh?

I grew up in OC. I remember the "Killers" with the mafia looking guy shooting bugs. When did you move to Montana?

Been out here about two years, just got tired of the traffic and inflated property tax. No place is perfect but I really like the quiet isolation here, did jones for the starbucks really bad.

Starbucks sucks, but at least they are almost everywhere. They do have good lemon loaf, though.

How long did you live in OC?

Re: Moving to Milwaukie/Oregon City area to attend college: where should I rent?

Sorry to the op, this has become somewhat of an Oregon City thread Well I moved to oc in '85 from Astoria, my hubby's home ground, we left oc in '89 to go to the U of O and then back to Portland Metro in '96, them I suburbed it until coming to Montana. Yes I liked the Lemon Loaf but that cranberry thing at christmas, man oh man. I am proud to say I am a recovering Starbucks addict. All the coffee I drink here is cowboy coffee, keeps you tall in the saddle Hope we are helping the nursing student. Have they replied?
