I was wondering the same thing. I just got a call from a freind who is from OR and now in So Ca and she says she would never come back here to the PNW. She wants me to go back down there. I really want to stay here!

In Wyoming, I often had to decide just which deep-fried, biscuit-dry fish sandwich I would have for lunch ... either McDonald's with a slice of cheese or Burger King's larger and possibly better one. Burger King made it easy by moving out of town. Those were my only choices except for JB's (the local version of BigBoy) terriyaki salmon - which they usually didn't have 'cause there wasn't any on the truck that week. Here, it's salmon-burgers, halibut/cod/salmon sandwiches, shrimp/crab/oyster soups, tacos, what have you!!! I'm lovin' it! Folks seem almost normal and very friendly in comparison to much of the country. We've walked the beach just about every day since arrival - at least stopped by to watch the waves on the rainy days. Met a crabber or two, a couple of agate-pickers. We haven't driven up the coast to Tillamook yet but drove down to Newport. We hit Siletz Bay at 51st St. NW in town. Had a great buffet at the casino. Found a little bar today with dinner specials starting at $2.50!! - The Cruise Inn. Not only that, I got my first half-gallon of Tillamook Ice Cream last night - I really liked that - and still have to sample Umpqua and also the local Dairy Queen soft-serve. It is, after all, the important things that matter! Thanks for asking - I'm digging this. It's also been comparatively dry since we arrived with rain only a couple of days or so. I notice we've also been warmer than the inland towns with highs mostly above 50 and doubt we've been below 40 at night. Seas have been pretty calm - even with the little storm moving in yesterday they were only a little over 5ft if that. Looking forward to all this region has to offer. Come On Down!! |

No, haven't eaten at Mo's yet. It's on the list. Have been down to the pier there and all. So many freakin' places to eat. Must recommend Richen's On the Beach - west side of 101 south of midway thru town. Enjoy your Yurt - I like mine with hot fudge! (joke - humor - ar-ar)

Okay, ate at Mo's in Lincoln City. Quite nice ... but let me reiterate my recommendation for "Richen's On The Beach". Maybe eat upstairs in the "Sip 'n' Sand" lounge - better view. So far, in town, the food has been the best. A close second is the Chinook Winds Casino buffet.

Lounges usually don't allow 2 year olds. But, next time we are there, we will check it out. You got to check out Pelican Pub and Brewery (all ages) right on the beach in Pacific City. Great food, great pizza, great desserts, GREAT BEER. In the summer, lots of great surfing right out in front. And you can watch the dory boats launch and land on the beach. Low tide offers tide pools on the North end of the beach, and there is a great hike up the dunes and out on the cape. Just ignore the warning signs.

PDX, you always seem to have pics for your conversations. How can this be? These are great shots by the way and if I can hump it, I will. My wife tends to stay behind on such treks but has been more adventuresome of late. Thanks for the pics. Remind me to bring up a question about where I can connect to the Cascade Trail before the whale migration next month, okay? |

I just seach for photos on the photo search section of Google: http://images.google.com/imghp?tab=wi&q= If I find a photo I like, I click on it t open it, right click on the photo, select properties, and then highlight the "Address URL" (make sure you get all of it as sometimes it is many lines long), right click on the highlighted text, select copy, go back talkstates, in the top of the advanced reply box there is an icon the third over fromt he bottom left called "insert image". Click on that, and on my computer a warnign pops up on the top of my brower which i need to click on and say temporarily allow scripts, I then go back, click on the insert image icon again, and paste the link into the box that appears. This will put the photo in the reply. You can do this with many photos, also.

Just came in from Pacific City and the Pelican Pub. What a nice little view! Pretty good chowder - didn't have a beer - maybe next trip. What I've never seen until now is para-sailing without being tethered to a boat or with an ultra-lite! When I last lived at a coast, hang-gliders were just coming in and gliders themselves were the big thing (Torrey Pines, So. Cal). I understand they usually jump off the big hill there by the cape but this fellow was catching air and altitude right off of the beach! This Doggie's gotta try that!! Like a really big swing! Thanks PD for the guidance - I just keep finding more and more reasons to think that moving to Oregon was absolutely the right thing to do! | |
