| Motorcycle Classes in Oregon
My wife and I took a 3 day Basic Rider Training class this weekend taught by Team Oregon through PCC (Portland Community College). It is a lot harder than you think it would be, but we learned a lot of good information and skills taking the classes. I saw a statistic that said 90% of people involved in a motorcycle accident have not had formal training. By passing this class, you also automatically qualify to get your motorcycle endorsement added to your license by taking the card they give you into the DMV and making an upgrade payment. Sure beats taking the written and skills test at the DMV with the long lines..... If anyone is thinking about getting your motorcycle endorsement I highly recommend this class. And if you are already a rider, they offer intermediate and advanced classes. Now, I just need to get my 1972 Honda CB450 running before Spring http://teamoregon.orst.edu/to_web/index.shtml

That's awesome! I love biking and I'm glad that you and your wife took the time to be educated, much better safe than sorry. Back in the early 90's when we moved to ID, you could automatically be licensed to drive a two wheeler They've sinced changed things and you must pass a test, not sure whether classes are a requirement or not, they should be though.

My brother who lives over in Idaho had to take the test to be able to ride his scooter. But, it is pretty easy with a scooter and that allows you to ride any bike. The class is mandatory for people under 21 here in Oregon. Probably would be a good thing to have it mandatory for everyone.

I learned something new every time I took the course.Like you, I think it should be mandatory prior to getting a license. The only problem is logistics. Can't get to the course on your bike until you have a grad certificate. Which means you haul the bike to the course and leave it there until you graduate and then haul it home. haha

The course we took supplies the bikes..... Lots of crashes too...... so all the better reason to not learn on your own bike.

There is also a Harley Davidson dealership in Gladstone, OR (Latus Motors) that offers classes as well. A bit more expensive, and you still need to go to DMV for the written and skills test, but any formal training one can get is good. Link to Latus Motors http://www.latus-harley-davidson.com/
