Wow is it pouring here in my neck of the woods!!! Don't see too much of that. Had to run out to a horse ranch this morning and it brought back so many memories stepping in that mud!!! Yes it was mud...

I don't mind the rain but mostly get light showers... this pouring is just short of moonsoon type of rains. It is a bit lighter than earlier but still coming down. At least it isn't snow!!!!

Hardly!!! I used to have horses on my property when I was younger and rain or shine they need food and exercise...Lots of days on muddy ground! In fact one day I had an appt and was dressed up and it was raining. I had to feed so I thought... no problem I will get ready and put on my boots, carry my heels and feed and head straight out... so I did just that and as I got close to the drive way.... I got stuck with my boots and DOWN I went!!! Right in the mud... Needless to say I had a call to make and I was very late to my appt! My then 5 year old was none too happy as I was holding him and he went down in the mud too!

Speaking of hay burners, last time I road one I broke a few ribs that or cracked them good, never did go to the doctor but I couldn’t sleep on my side for two weeks . I found out grass makes a sound like rice crispy’s an milk when you hit it at a full run . that an I don’t bounce like I use to. The daughter had a horse but he was more like a big pet . that an as a kid my cousins had them Shelton ponies we would ride an them suckers wear full of tricks to get you off . so now the only horsepower I like is either my right hand or right foot. Much more predictable.

owwww... yeah I have been stepped on, thrown, kicked..you name it by horses. Used to break them when I was younger (MUCH)... and they used to try to break me. But I still love them and miss riding. HOWEVER I learned something today. I would much rather pleasure ride than train and work them. Those days are done for me. I have been "cityfied" as my son says. But then again I am sure if under the right circumstances.. I could get into it again...but like I said... under the RIGHT circumstances... today wasn't it!

I still like them just don’t care to ride them , not to say I never will .
Ya when they don’t want you on they can be pretty smart . always rode bare back they didn’t want any of us kids being dragged by the strip . as a kid they would throw me off an then step on me for good measure . try to brush you off on the side of a building . we would go riding from one farm to the other an they would what till we got to the other farm in the middle of the field an throw me off then I’d half to walk a ½ mile back
I think I spent more time on the ground then on them, but ha memories right.

CGeorge, those sound like horror stories to me - but I sort of understand. I think I've already told all of my horse-horror stories on another thread somewhere - but really, they're only about care & upkeep problems. The only time I remember having a problem was when I went up a mountain near the Tetons to spot Elk for the guides - the hunt started the next day - and the horses hadn't been ridden for months. They were trailbound. It wasn't so bad going up the mountain - just had to refresh this appy's memory ... a lot! It was on the way down when the problems began. I figure a horse, when it wants to, can smell a hay-meal from a great distance as I could not slow old "Freckles" down. My two partners were having the same problems with their mounts. It was a good day to be riding western! Finally, the three of us rigged the reins and jumped off the horses and took off, fast as three flashes, racing the horses down the mountain. We humans won! I rarely rode after that although I stabled and cared for a mess o' horsies a couple times after that and raised mules.
I don't do horsies no mo'.

Re: Geez, another snowstorm

My sister always had horses. I rode bare back a lot. Always on the one that was barn sour. Man...he would take off then stop on a dime. I would go flying over his head. Had the wind knocked out of me more than once. Been stepped on...thrown in the artichoke plants and rolled from under a mare with hoofs flying.:) Yes, memories.:) My sister has a cresent mark on her face where she was kicked by a horse. She still has them. Have thought about getting the kids a welsh pony...but don't know how much longer we will be at this house. Our next home will most likely be on a city lot. Someplace where the kids can play with neighborhood kids.

My bro-in-law has a horse and a donkey right now. Too much work for him. I love horses but wouldn't want to own one.
