Talking Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Native Offering His Services!

Hello all!

Many of you may recognize me from City-Data. My name is Paul Laure, and I'm a Sophomore at King's College here in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I enjoy spending my free time just driving around aimlessly on the backroads of Northeastern Pennsylvania, seeing where I end up, and chatting it up with some of the friendly locals I meet on my travels, so I have quite a thorough knowledge of the region for a teenager! I'm also a demographics junkie; I live for the latest releases from the U.S. Census Bureau and enjoy keeping track of real estate trends as I consider launching my "flipping" side jobs in the upcoming years for additional income. While I'm also a strong opponent of urban sprawl, as it is slowly yet surely destroying our beautiful countryside, I'll still try to stay as objective as possible if any of you want to inquire about our suburban areas.

Currently living in NJ/NYC and tired of battling the traffic congestion, paying astronomical housing prices and accompanying taxes, and worrying about terrorism? Well, Northeastern Pennsylvania may just be the answer! We have affordable housing, minimal traffic congestion, and are close enough to NYC, NJ, and Philly for fun day-trips while still being far enough away to avoid much of the associated crime issues and terrorist fears. If you want some insider information on as to why I think our area is among the most "up-and-coming" areas for relocation in the Northeast, then feel free to ask!

Sincerely,
Paul Laure, unofficial relocation specialist!

Do yous (trying to be cute) still have the occupational tax in PA? That was a killer. When I first arrived there (Bucks County) I was living with my Dad and hadn't started working yet. Only in the state 2 weeks, never had been paid a dime yet and I got an occupational tax bill in the mail. I was in shock!

I think it is a bug with the forum conversion. Some post icon changed. I changed it within the thread, but it still shows the old one on the thread list.

Unfortunately, we still do have that "Occupational Priviledge Tax", otherwise known as the "Right to Work Tax", here in the Commonwealth. It varies from community to community; I pay the maximum in Wilkes-Barre Township of $52/year, which is supposed to solely fund EMS services. However, judging by the poor services we receive in the township in return, I honestly don't know WHERE all of that money is going! If there's one bad thing about PA, it's that we're taxed to death! LOL!

Hmmmm...interesting. That's okay; the big red angry face helps my message to stick out more like a sore thumb anyways, possibly enticing more people to check it out!

I only know Scranton as the setting for "The Office".
