It is very hard for me to believe that U.S. citizens can't be found willing to pick tomatos for an average wage of $16.59 per hour.

Well if that is the average wage. Put me on a truck. When I picked crops, many years ago...you got paid by the box or the bucket. Not hourly. Use to smash a tomato and wash our hands with it at the end of the day. Back breaking work, hotter than hell, no shade, and mostly out houses. Yeah a place most American's will avoid.

First off, take a look at this ****. The poor under paid illegal slave labor
wages paid for picking is an atrocity . ( Though Eckel's tomato pickers made
an average of $16.59 per hour last year, he said the relatively high wage is
not enough to attract local labor to work the fields. ) How the hell do they
survive on this meager wage ? { wish I made that much ! I guess I will go
out and sneak back in}

The congress needs to get off their ass and do something. They pass the
guest worker program **** just to make it almost impossible for any farmer
to participate. That way they can claim we need illegals . It would be real
simple to just pass a guest worker program that would allow any farmer to
import all the workers needed if he can not get them here. But that would
not serve the purpose which of coarse is to let big business alone and get
amnesty for all the illegals.

Like I have said many times. It is just a bunch of fluff. Every thing they
pass is fluff up Americas A.They have no intention of doing anything about
the problem
