Does south dakota get a bad rap

I really have not heard much about south dakota other than open land as far as the eye can see.

What can you tell me about living in the larger cities as compared to the other major cities in the US?

On thing for sure, I know that moderator markablue has never been there so would not be a good judge of this place.

I have not really heard anything bad about it. Living in the Black Hills area might be nice if you don't mind being away from a major metro area.

I still don't think that markablue could find the United States to begin with.

I am kinda spoiled. I would want the beauty, the land, but also a larger city close by to take care of my inner(city) child.

I am sure that markablue moderator would travel here, but it's a long trek from poland, to russia to china to north korea to cuba then to the US.

I have that same problem. I want both, but it is hard to have them both.

The closest thing to a major city in the Black Hills is Rapid City, with an estimated population of around 81,000. Fom what I have read it has walmart supercenters, national chain restaurants, and is getting a mall soon, but is also missing things like a major airport. It is supposed to have daily flights to Denver, Minneapolis, and Salt Lake City though.

Wouldn't markablue just ask yac to beam her over?

Re: Does south dakota get a bad rap

Rapid City is a wonderful place. Course, I only lived there for 18 years.

Yes, there is a good airport. Sure, your going to connect to Denver, Minny or wherever.

Yup, about 80,000 people. They've had a mall for 15 years. What are you looking for? The town has ice skating rinks, the mall, bowling alleys, theaters (no not the movie kind, well they have them too. haha) really friendly people, the Black Hills so you can go camping. Mount Rushmore, the Reptile Gardens. Only a couple of tv channels but who doesn't have cable these days?

It's a nice place. I've lived in San Diego, LA, Charleston, Pensacola, Dallas, Norfolk and didn't find anything in those places that Rapid City didn't have. I did find bias, unfriendlyness and places I wouldn't even drive through. But in Rapid City, I didn't find that. Maybe it was simply because I grew up there.

But Rapid City is a nice area and you can find something to live in a short ways from town. A little pricey, but certainly you can find something for around $200,000. with 3 or 4 acres.
