| I love East TN!
Hi ya'll! Are you looking to move to Beautiful East TN but don't know where to start? I did the same thing 10 years ago and now it has become a hobby of mine to help others gather the information they need about East TN so they can make an informed desicion about the move. It took me 3 moves in 10 years but I have finally found a true home for my family. Great area, Great schools and lots to do, not too crowded, low cost of living so we now ENJOY our lives here. If you have questions, ask away, I'll do my best to help in any way I can........No, I am not a realtor hahahahahhaha |

hmmm, east tennessee is now attracting a bunch of other hillbillies that are running out of places like Florida ! just look at the demographics around the TriCities area, Nashville in central TN is fine, east TN may be nice scenery but it's beginning to attract some what I would call, losers, all hawking other losers to the nice area ! sooner or later (probably sooner) e TN will be populated with the same folks who ran away to sunny Florida thinking that Florida would solve their past problems , now they are exiting to places like Kingston, Chat, Maryville and surrounding areas ! watch out because half the folks on sites like this are probably hawking an area because they are either folks selling some other service like real estate, banking, or selling you the fix-all fantastic mortgage or equity loan

rain, it's your opinion and we don't have to agree on anything....if you actually think or believe that the term "hillbilly" and the "N-word" are derived from the same insidious sort of prejudice and/or racism that existed in these United States, then I suggest you go back to undergraduate or graduate school...the terms are socio-culturally incongruent to say the least, these terms denote , convey and connote (more importantly) vastly different nomenclature and derivation....but what do I know, I just another overachieving Jew ! one other note Rain- my experience with TN is based on living there, thus ' a priori ' knowledge, not a judgment from afar ! Again, there is no need to internalize differences of opinion or attack another poster...you are entitled, like myself, to post your own opinion about any city or area of relocation....we need not agree, because our opinions are certainly 'coloured' by individual experience....that's what the USA is about...more importanlty, please know I could care less whether you or another poster shared my own experience thus opinion..that would be patently silly it seems. God Bless |

NY First, let's make a distinction between indigenous "Jews" to the south (that may be an oxmoron..lol) and other Jews around the nation (CA. FL, NY, LA (lol) ) Southern Jews were acculturated a bit or taught to be sort of "invisible", or even subscribe to notions of white "good ole boy-ism" in order to deflect attention to their position in southern (white) society...simply put, I know some 'redneck Jews' in TN, but that's my experience....more folks with changed names like "Green(e)", "Harris", "Wolf(e)", "Brown[braunstein]", "Silver", "Nash" and the like, it was an amazing...a experience ! are they 'branded' ? well yes, in a very sly, southern way...subtle stuff, funny stuff.....then I actually see other folks bristle at the specious notion of equating the use of the word 'hillbilly' with the N word...I love America...wonderful place, just call me another "Puppetmeister" (which of course I truly am ! ..lol) ![]() SHALOM |

By far, TN is a bunch of Southern Baptists, and or evangelical types, certainly that's the case around eastern TN as well....heck, there 'ain't' many Cathholic either !, the larger metro areas obviously have more diversity (racially and religous), but if you look at the census figures, the place, i.e. E TN is an enclave of whitebread, and even markets itself in some of those thinly veiled, almost racist/anti-Semitic tones....you here things like " there's no gang activity HERE", which is code language, or "you won't here much rap music here, you here more country", which is cleverly-cloaked code language as well ..( this one was said to me from my real estate agent! ), but the most telling of all code language used by my banker was the area I was buying in "had very few DEMOCRATS, if you know what I mean " You can't make this stuff up my friend ! ...lol....hidden agendae abound and of course it's not limited to e. TN or anywhere else, but you asked me about my experience in TN, and it is what it is !

| Re: I love East TN! Thank you, it just really burns my ass...ppl do not think the term hillbilly is a slur. My friends do live on a mt and do have barnyard animals and so forth..but they are hard working, wonderful ppl that will help anyone and everyone..well, i don't want to go off on a rant but like i said, what is good for one is good for all. Yes, you are so right. Blacks can use it plus use honkey, cracka, blue eyed devils, ghosts, powder and so forth. Chris Rock does a whole skit on the difference btwn a nigga and a black person...it is HYSTERICAL! Go to youtube.com and type in Chris Rock. It is the best thing i have ever seen and i can't believe someone hasn't tried to kill him yet...LOL

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything...clearly if you think that the term 'hillbilly' is similar to using the 'N-word', there is nothing more to say. I foound it's useless to argue with ignorance and/or total meshuggenehs Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to his own set of opinions but no one (rational) is entitled to his own set of facts or truth. God Bless, Hymie, just another smart-a$$ Jew ! |

Help me out here. I'm from the northwest, so this is all greek to me. What is the difference between being called a hillbilly and being called a redneck? Redneck used to be a bad think, now its the hot thing to call anybody from the south. I know that the image of "the beverly hillbillies" comes to mind, but Jed Clampett was a hard working guy just shootin' up some food. Are there stereotypical "hillbillies" still in this area? The term hillbilly is not used, at all, in my area. So is this a regional issue that those who are from the south would know "better" than to call someone a hillbilly? Understand that I am not trying to make any "point" here, I am looking to understand the culture of this area. Help the dufferz out!

Wow, I had no idea that "Hillbillies" were taken from their homeland, against their will, abused and beaten and made to live in deplorable conditions for years, so as to serve the "white people". Raped. Children taken from them, sold as laborers.... do I need to go on? Yes, yes - I can see how the terms are completly the same and hold the same level of negativity.

My favorite spot is the town where Milligan College is - a lovely, once-rural setting among the farmlands - but I forget the name of the town! | |
