Ranked by Smart Money magazine. I thought that it was interesting.

Top 10 Smart Places to Live

I spent a little time in Nashville in 2000. Hadn't been there in many years.
My impression was that they have been really smart in planning as the city is actually too large right now for where the folks are concentrated. While they have their regular, old neighborhoods, they were beginning whole new sections of towns with apts, condos, etc. While many cities have been overgrown for decades and more, Nasville has allowed plenty of space to grow into for a long while to come.

Nashville is an up and coming city for sure, but cities like MEMPHIS are terrible choices
