Ok Texans, this is your chance to tell others the best place to live in Texas, and places in Texas you would not live.

Austin is super expensive, but a nice place to visit. I'd check out Fredericksburg Texas. Very nice!

Worst - El Paso on the west. Houston on the right. Best? Beaumont on the east. __________________ in 1620, a whole mess of illegal aliens landed on the shores of NE. The general consensus was to "ship them back home". If it would've worked, I'd be standing here only 3/8 of what I am now but it would all be Red. Cool.

I would agree Fredricksburg is really nice. I would live there. Wyody, take your medications, Beaumont is the farthest East in Texas, not Houston. So if your gonna bookend El Paso with anything it would be Beaumont. Del Rio Texas is by far the worst City in Texas. I loved Uvalde TX, just something about it that I like.

Bandera is awesome, but talk about redneck!! Boerne is very nice, also. I love San Antonio, but the last time we went through there, it seemed to have double in size and congestion. I still like it, but I guess I'm just loving Navarre, FL, more than I ever dreamed.

I was in Florida 2 weeks ago, down in Destin.. I hated it. Talk about feeling poor. but Fort Walton Beach was nice, stayed with a friend of mine.. even saw a wedding on the beach there between the two cities on that road thats seperate the gulf and the bay. the water was so nice and warm and huge fun waves and so green. Loved that. Now if I can find out who the girl is in torrys avatar my life maybe complete. She looks like the girl that wears the tshirt that says not everything is flat in Florida. =) Now back to Texas.. I need to take a trip down to Brownsville area and take a look at the light house and see what S. Padre Island is like. never been there.. well once but I was a kid and dont remember it much.. other than my sister saying it was full of aliens.. I kept looking for lil green men back then not knowing what she meant.

| Re: Best or Worst City to live in Texas Pan, if you do head down to Brownsville from El Paso, will you go thru Corpus Christi? I ask 'cause I have an old friend who recently bought a motel at Aransas Pass - which I hear is near Corpus ... and was wondering at the possibility of you checking it out ... I'll get the name of it (the motel) from him if you're interested. ... and welcome back.

Destin is much more commercialized and caters to the more affluent population. It's nice to be only a few miles away and not have to pay for the scenery. The water should stay warm for a few more weeks...we went swimming through October last year and it still wasn't as cold as some of the Minnesota lakes in August!! Hate to burst your bubble, but I think Torrey is male. I did a double-take, myself. The girl in the avatar is liable to knock someone out if she turns around. I've been to South Padre a few times...it's beautiful. Not quite as family-oriented as this area, but still very nice. Good to have you around, Pan.

That would be great.. I normally camp on the beaches since in Texas you can do that. But a Motel would be a nice change. =) I'll take my camera and get you some pictures when I go next time. Yeah Destin was very wierd for me.. so many gated places. If I am ever down that way again, ill let you know and we can meet up and you can show us around. Good to be back.

Favorite city: Austin (duh) Worst city: Waco Best small towns: almost every town in the southern half of the Hill Country. Too many to list, but some have been mentioned like Frederiksburg, Boerne, Bandera, Blanco, etc. Worst region: the western Panhandle and the Permian Basin. Midland/Odessa, Pecos, Lubbock, etc. Absolutely dreadful topography and a complete absence of aesthetics. Nicest surprises: Crockett and Nacogdoches. Took a road trip and spent a night in each of these cute towns. I especially like Nacogdoches because the university there lends some vibrancy to the place, whereas Crockett is just a pretty place that's kind of falling apart. |
