So tell me about El Paso

My husband is already down there. The kids and I are going to visit next week for 10 days and then we'll move down there too hopefully by the end of October.

Okay, now I know you are female. What happened to the sex sign that gave us a clue? Is your Avatar your hubby or a sport star that you like?

Isn't Texas pretty hot/ humid this time of year?

Re: So tell me about El Paso

It's one of my favorite players on my favorite team.

I've never been to Texas yet so I have no clue about the weather there. I will be there on this upcoming trip and then next time when I move there.

Re: So tell me about El Paso

From Dallas/Ft Worth going East, it is really humid. In the West side of the state, it's a lot dryer. Still hot though.

Can't tell you much about El Paso, been through there a few times but never stopped. Hot, Dry.

Re: So tell me about El Paso

Visual Aids:

In eastern Colorado, on a landscape that looks like a cracked moon, a kid tosses a burger-wrapper out the window to be blown away on the wind.
In mid-eastern Arizona, a woman is driving and scanning a few notes for a meeting later in the day. The wind inadvertantly (or was it?) rips a page from her stack and it goes flyyyyyying into the desert.
In southern Utah, a missionary is bicycling up a small hill heading for his next "appointment" when a gust of wind flaps his suit-jacket open and a cotton handkerchief blows out and is immediately unfolded by the wind and blown like a sail into horizon-ish invisibility.

The handkerchief, the notebook page, the burger-wrapper ... they all wind up on a hill directly west of El Paso. It's the first thing you see as you also first view El Paso from the west.
(pssssst ..... I don't think it gets any better than that. Peace ... shhhhhh).

Re: So tell me about El Paso

El Paso, Born and raised. Hate it. Left moved to Gulfport MS. What do you need to know.

Im In El Paso now, came back to help an ailing family member. And was shocked at the advancement El paso has made in 6 months. Lots of building is underway, and infrastructure is coming in droves, new highways, and roads, and places to shop. the NE side of town is really starting to become the great place it can be.

I am guessing this is a military move.. if so you'll learn quick there is the Army way, done most places, and then the Fort Bliss way, but that is slowly changing as the Goverment gets rid of the old bad apples and replaces them with people from other post and changes the mind set of the many here.

there is so much construction on post now there is a lack of people to build here.. when its all done the military here will have it very good. more on post houseing all new as they are tearing down the old in blocks. many new thigs on post..

El Paso is not a bad place, but if your used to lush green places with lots of trees and humidty.. not gonna have that here, get used to the color brown.. its every where. Learn Spanish, cause you aint working without it, unless you get a job on post.

If you need to knwo anything at all let me know.. I'll do my best to fill you in.

Re: So tell me about El Paso

They were great. I was making great money, had great benefits, had it all.. the wife even had a great job there.. All was great.. Humidity was rough, but I was getting used to it. My Uncle had a heart attack his 3rd. He has had a triple bypass a few years ago, he went to Vegas for a bowling tourney, and he fell there on the lane. They got him stable and brought him back to El Paso after a 3-4 week period. He was also on Oxygen, and he got a lung infection. Well that put him in the hospital for another 2 weeks, so I was asked by my mom and aunt to come back and help. So knowing Family is the most important thing, I packed up the wife and kids and came back to El Paso, a city I cant stand to take care of family. So I am back for a while I guess. But if I can in a year or so, move I will.. this time though I think I will stay in Texas, or move to Portland or Seattle. not sure though.

Re: So tell me about El Paso

Things are getting expensive here in the PacNW, but you might enjoy it if you can handle the greyness. Its not the rain, its the grey that drives people crazy here. When we get done with cruising the Caribbean for a few years we are thinking of heading to North Carolina, or someplace else just to check it out. I have lived in the west my whole life and need a change of scenery. Not sure if there is anyplace better than here, but I can at least look, eh?

Hope your uncle is doing okay.

Re: So tell me about El Paso

He is fine now, thanks.

Yeah I was thinking of looking into Charleston SC or somewhere out there too.. heck I was even thinking at one in my life of going to MAINE and living for a while just so I can say I have. =)

My Ultimate goal would be to go to Scottland, or Ireland and live. Mainly Scottland.. I have a few friends out that way who have offered me a place to stay should I ever get there.

I have lived in Seattle for a couple years on east lake so I know what its like.. only thing I hated were the hills. Only place the stories of walking up hill to and from school can be done. =) And the cost of living is getting high everywhere.. the places that are not are sinking into poverty and crime.

That's actually one of the places that I'd love to check out. I always thought Scottish people were very jovial and easy-going? Why so angry? How could you be angry while living in such a beautiful place?

Ahh, one word.... English!!! They HATE the English and I think that has made them a very bitter people. I mean they REALLY ARE ANGRY!!! Go there and check it out and you will see. English and Scottish are like night and day. Oh, and another thing. You won't understand a damn word they say. Scottish English is not American English!! Especially when they have been drinking!!!!!!!!!

Re: So tell me about El Paso

My friend Paul who lives in Scottland, does not seem angry at all. He sends me books and lots of stuff on how to read and write and understand the language there. His daughters call me up every year and sing me happy birthday... with dads help. They are 15 and 12 now. I dont have any American friends that do that... Hell I am lucky to get a card or a mention of it from them.

As for hating the English.. I understand that. They have good reason. And have you met an English person.. they think they are so much better than everyone else.. pricks. Well my experince anyways.

Re: So tell me about El Paso

I always think of the Irish...I forget about the Scotts. The Scotts and the English conflict go way back. Back to the Queens of Both countries...and then some.

I wanted to comment on this but my edit button was missing so I had to post a new one.

I love gray days.. makes everything seem cleaner and filled with more color. Things seem more in 3D, and stand out more. I love Gray days. I am happier when its gray.. does that make me weird?
