The First Thanksgiving was in Texas

Okay, time for some to drop the fantasies they have been taught by our "English-oriented" school systems.
Here's the account of the first Thanksgiving events - brought by the Spanish to Texas. Hey Pan, know this one?
In fact, there were at least TWO celebrated by the Spanish in the Texas area long before the Mayflower.
Not only that, there was one 2 years before the Mayflower in Virgina.
Here's your read. Blessings.
The First(Real)Thanksgiving

Yeah, and they also like to tell the story here of how Columbus did not discover America, some Spanish Explorer did. What ever.. I like to explain that Before them the Vikings discovered this land.. but like I said what ever.

Thanksgiving where ever it comes from does not matter much any more, the fact it brings family together to argue, fight, hug, cry, watch parades and football, eat well and nap.. is enough for me.

Yeah - specially the football and napping.
No family out here close - kinda lonely.
And no Turkey for me this year.
I'm always curious to see who knows the difference between Yams and Sweet Potatoes. I like Sweet Potatoes. Don't like Yams. I'm also wishing I knew somebody who makes Squash Pies. I like them better than pumpkin.
I imagine, Pan, that there were others before the Vikings as well. One thing I'm pretty darned sure of ... I wasn't there.

Re: The First Thanksgiving was in Texas

The word "Thanksgiving", as it applies is to say "A giving Thanks to God". I would have to check with my wife - who is of Viking heritage - to determine if Vikings were at all theistic. I would also have to check if their trace extends past Greenland. In general, I assume it does and [i]think[i] I've heard of old coins found in New England - but I'm not certain. I, for one, would not have stopped at Greenland while there remained new coastline to explore south and beyond that.
However, it is documented that Spanish Catholics held mass in what is now U.S. property and I'd have to do some research to find out if your reference to Viking-mania is relevant or not.
I also have to wonder at the obvious theoretical question - i.e., if there were Spanish Pagans or atheists among the group - and if so, can they be considered a part of those first "Thanksgivings".
Or, did they simply show up for a plate of food, pat themselves on their own back and move off to ponder their navel-lint while they ate?
