I'm a teacher moving to Houston and want to know the best areas to teach in.?

I'm a new teacher (certified last December) finishing up my first full semester of teaching at a school in a very depressed, low income district with lots of problems from administration as well as less than desirable student behavior and lack of discipline.

I would like to know what are the best districts to teach in where I won't have as many problems from administration as well as students. I love diversity and would not like to live too far away from downtown. However, I also know the Bay area (which has some of the more affluent districts) is in a very vulnerable place in terms of hurricanes. The districts I've been primarily researching are Spring Branch, Galena Park, Alief, Humble, Fort Bend and Pearland. Can someone from the area give me a little more information on those districts as well as more advice? Thanks in advance. It is very much appreciated.

Humble ISD, Conroe ISD, Cy-Fair ISD on the north side are your best bets

You will have to choose problems to work near downtown, or teach in a suburb and have better working conditions.

Re: I'm a teacher moving to Houston and want to know the best areas to teach in.?

I know this is an old thread, but I'm new here :P so JUST INCASE you haven't made a decision yet. I would seriously consider a school like Spring ISD. I live on the North side, currently have children in Humble ISD. If you go with Humble, research each school very carefully. The gang, drug and violence problems here are incredible. I'm moving back to Spring because every day I'm sending my children to school is a day I'm panicking because we've had so many incidents happen. I've even shown up at the high school in the middle of a massive gang fight, cops were everywhere..it was CRAZY. And the Middle school isn't much better, the halls smell like pot, and the educators tend to be very disorganized and a bit out of touch. (They've literally lost my child on 3 different occasions, and have twice kept him without informing me that he was staying after for make up classes) Also lately there has been at least 3 attacks on teachers at the high school that I'm aware of..and the last I heard they still hadn't reported any of the attacks.

Spring ISD is much more organized, has greater parental involvement, the teachers are paid better and this may have to do with why they seem to take a bigger roll in the lives of their students. I lived in Spring for 7 years, and had 1 problem that was promptly resolved there. Whereas in Humble, its so out of control that things are still not getting resolved.

Certain schools like Klein, Cy-fair and even some Conroe schools are really great as well.
Good luck to you!
