speed limit and accidents

I have been through Utah a couple of time and if I recall the freeway speed limit was 80 MPH? That was cool to help get yourself someplacer quicker, but I also saw more accidents on the freeway. Is there a problem with traffic deaths in Utah?

I wonder if Markblue moderator could calculate what 80 mph translates into a fraction of one warp?

Wrong Utah, Duff - that must've been the one in Nevada.
Re: traffic-accidents: Duff, I'm only gonna whisper this 'cause it's sure to pull some fire my way - but Utahns are among the worst drivers in the country! Right turn/left signal. Left turn/right signal - better still, no signal. Forget changing lanes in time for your ramp - if you didn't get in the right lane 12 miles ago, it's your fault! Speeding up, slowing down, braking hard for a deer (no deer for miles).

Let's not forget in town driving. Making left turns from the traffic lane rather than the two-way left turn lane, just why did they paint all those lines anyway?

Why, they paint all of those lines to use up the paint and keep employees busy - otherwise, they won't get as much paint or as many employees next year. In the west, several states "make work" in order to keep the funding up. So, you see what seems to be continuous road construction and various projects that are well planned-out to show a need for continuing federal funds - it's not clandestine manipulation - it's good business-sense for these "underpopulated" states.

Really? More accidents? In CA I think the Minimum speed limit is 80 and there are no more than the usual!

Hmm. Well, I was traveling from Seattle to 4-corners new Mexico, went hwy 184, so we never did Nevada. Maybe the 80 MPH was in Idaho only, but I remember that we were in Utah and saw the accidents and I remember thinking about where the speed had something to do with it, but based on what I am hearing, it was the drivers.
