Fry Sauce

Again a carry-over from c-d ...at first I thought it was a "mormon thing" but as I learned, it's a Utah thing. Arctic Circle, a Utah based eaterie, "invented" it decades ago. It seems only to be available in the heavily populated LDS areas; however, most Utah families have their own secret recipe.

(gads, it seems so simple to make but what do I know *shrugs shoulders*)

Let's hear your favorite recipe for fry sauce if you're willing to share it.

I'm really surprised - there's an Artic Circle in Newport OR. A really old one with car-hops!! Never seen one outside of Utah myself - and they sell bottles of fry-sauce. Good halibut samwich though.

Re: Fry Sauce

Fry sauce = ketchup or ranch. Anything else is nasty. The Canadians dip their fries in mayonnaise.

Germans dip theirs in a delicious, hot mustard - which I've never been able to find in the States. Not enuff room in most of Europe to grow tomatoes for ketchup ... or even catsup!

You have never dipped fries in ranch? Where have you been hiding? It is a very popular thing here in Oregon. And it is really good. Especially if you mix a bit of ketchup in it.... damn good!!!
And onion rings can only be dipped in ranch!!!!

Old Chicago restaurants have ranch fries that are good to dip in ranch dressing.

Well, I was actually referring to the genuine "Utah Fry Sauce" ...the one that purportedly, Arctic Circle *invented* --that's why I posted this in the Utah forum.

Yeah, we all have our own preference of what we dip our fries in but it's the Utah stuff I was thinking of.

This is what I gathered from the other forum: *Fry Sauce* is ketchup, mayo, and some "secret" spice. Now this secret spice evidently various from family to family in Utah. Some use paprika, some pickle juice, and some ...well, I guess it's a secret.

So Utahns, are you willing to reveal your "secret" spice??

Re: Fry Sauce

Have tried fries in Ranch - my wife's a hound for Ranch - but I reserve it for white-meat chicken. Guess I'll have to spin it again. Is this a good time to bring up the deep-fried pickle-chips (sweet or dill) that I found last time in Cincy? They're great with Ranch!

Our Burgerville restaurants here in Oregon and SW Washington have a "spread" that they use on their burgers that you can also purchase to dip your fries in. It is AWESOME!!!! I am not a fan of the ketchup/mayo sauces and Burgerville, from what I can estimate, uses a mayo, mustard, and dill pickle sauce. It is a "secret", so I will never know the actual recipe, but it is REALLY good!!!

Re: Fry Sauce

I have some friends that moved up here from that area. I called them a bit ago and she said, "You can't tell anybody" So here it is.

3 ingredients that she uses.

1/3 part ketchup
1/3 part thousand island dressing
1/3 part horseradish sauce. The kind like you get at arby's, not straight horsradish.

I can dip baked potato skins into ranch dresing but not fries.

When one of my friends, who grew up in fry sauce country (Idaho), was pregnant she had to have crinkle cut fries with mayo! Do you know how hard it was to find crinkle cut fries in Fresno? Before you ask, nope couldn't be done at home, had to be fast food. She about drove me crazy since she had four kids and craved it with all of them.
