living the good life in vermont

In your estimation, to live the good life in vermont, lets say a 3000 sq. ft. house on a large lot, in a high end neighborhood...

What kind of income should one have, and what would a house like this cost?

OK they are around 250K average cost. But to make 40k a year in VT is considered great pay. With exceptions in some areas, that the housing prices are higher in. lol Vt is in the selling boom right now. Everyone is selling as taxes are so high there now. And noone is buying there as they are selling for WAY TO HIGH. A 130k Home 4 years ago, Now has ppl trying to sell it at 500 K. The state just raised the property taxes and reevaluated the entire state. To the market when it was strong. So ppl's taxes jumped over 120 % in some areas. One used to be able to but a acre for about $500 not that long ago. Now you can't touch that unless you have about 10 K. They are selling there houses for 10 to 20% more than the revalueation. Which is normal around New England. But VT over Valued the Houses and land Already. They compaired them to the surrounding states. Where the sales of homes was strong and the payscale was Higher. So istead of having home prices done on what they are selling for in VT the Priced them on what a home that sioze is selling for in NY NH and MA. Now everyone is trying to sell there home as they make Very little in VT and Are amoung the tops in the nation for taxes already.PPL literaly can't afford to LIVE there anymore. VT is losseing 5th generation Vermonters due to the state going so liberal they can't afford to stay. Just this year, The state Finace official recomended that they cut property taxes by almost 5%. Instead the state house voted to raise them over 2%. True Vermonters are leaving by the bus full. And the Liberals are going there by the The herd. it is Sad really. Vt is such a Beautiful state. But even the ppl that live there say it is too liberal for them. To see home prices through out northern NE check out WWW.NNEREN.COM Done by county and town with proprty taxes listed as well for that property you are looking at.

Re: living the good life in vermont

I do not like hearing that vermont is getting way to expensive to live there. I had a very good friend that I worked with in NJ, when she wanted to settle down she moved back to vermont where she was born. I was in her wedding,I fell in love with the state. She got married in the month of Jan. there was so much snow, but the roads were clear it was just beautiful..My sister wants to retire there. I hope things change there and not become another NJ

Wish I could say other wise but It is true. To live in VT is very expensive. Way too many taxes. But other do say it isn't so. I guess it depends on What 1 considers too much.
