Moving to Norfolk, VA?

I am planning on moving to Norfolk, VA in the next couple of months with my boyfriend. We are pretty much open to where we'd like to rent - Norfolk, Virginia Beach, or Newport News - Any suggestions??

I used to live in Norfolk.
There was a man killed in a drive by in front of Walgreens which was about a block away from our home.
A hit and run at the end of our street. 2 people died.

and and and.
Shoes thrown over our power lines.
I swear to you, this is true.
