Tulips Are Protesting

The tulip season is open in Skagit county, but if you are thinking of going prior to tax day, don't bother. Nothing of significance is blooming. Late season, very little son. Hopefully changing soon.

The town of Woodburn (OR) is near to us - and apparently famous for blooming. We took a quick drive up last weekend and they were having a Tulip Festival at one farm. They were charging admission. We drove by - looked like a plot about 15 rows wide and 100 feet long of red and yellow tulips.
Okay ... Whoopee!(?) I know it's still early - but this was the only cultivated plant blooming in the billions of acres all around.
We had been considering taking a drive up to the Olympic this weekend Dufferz - still too soon for down there? We're planning "near" your area probably late May.

Same here. "tulip town" charges $5 to get in and there were only about three rows of blooms. I drove in, then drove out.

This spring has been pretty gloomy are here, so expect gloomy for a while longer. Where were you planning to visit in May?

That is sad... last year was so beautiful this time of year. Thanks for the info. Guess I will wait until later in the month.

Duff, I have an aunt & uncle and some grown cousins over near Port Orchard, across from Seattle. I've spent time with them here in Oregon and also back in West Virginia but have never been to their town. I'm thinking of barging in and grabbing some tacos. (just kidding, Uncle Martinez probably prefers pizza).
We have some major seminars down here in May - but after that, we need to get that done although I'm still torn over a trip back to Wyoming in July while I still need to make an Ohio trip this year to see my granddaughter ... and son and family - so, I'm all spread out - and have added a possible trip to Couer d'Alene onto the list.
But - as far as a "trip" to WA, I was thinking the "west of Tacoma" area and not the "way up there by Canady" trip where you folks live.

Re: Tulips Are Protesting

actually I live a wee bit farther south than Canady. I am 25 miles from downtown Seattle on the north end of lake Washington.

If you ever get the chance to take the Seattle Bremerton Ferry from the Bremerton side, look for a nice day, take the trip about the time the sun sets and you will arrive seeing Seattle in a whole wonderful light. It is something else!

Re: Tulips Are Protesting

Thank you Duff. It has been many, many years since I've been north of Centralia - and then, only once before heading for Alaska (by thumb - never made it) so, my visions of Seattle come mostly from reruns of "Frazier". I hope to spend much time here in the northwest ... although my feet start itching, twitching and burning as soon as the ink on the address-change dries so, I never know.
I'll certainly try and keep your suggestion in mind, eh?

Re: Tulips Are Protesting

We have daffodil hill here. Everyone flocks to the foothills in CA this time of year. The hills and trees are green and the poppy plants are orange on the hillsides. My Wisteria is blooming like crazy and so is the lavender. This time a year we the hills look like Ireland.
