| eastern Washinton - the other state
To the east of the cascade range is eastern Washington. If you are looking to move to Washington and want less rain, 4 seasons and lots of land, this is a good option. I-90 crosses the state almost straight across the central part of the state. Kittitas county along I-90 is 2 hours east of Seattle. Ellensburg, Cle Elum Roslyn (Cicily Alaska for Northern exposure fame) are the most popular destinations. Mix of farmland, Central Washington University. East of there are no major cities, of note is George... yes george washington. This "town" has the "gorge" where they have outdoor concerts in the summertime. They get mainstream acts there, people come from all over the state. Moses lake is a wonderful town just 90 miles outside of Spokane. The lake is large with nice homes around the lake. lots of folks retire here. Spokane, known as the inland empire is the largest city east of Seattle. This big "little" town has the feel of a large city, sprawls outward, but still has a smaller feeling about it. The claim to fame for Spokane is the river that runs through it, a system of waterfalls (more like water slides) create a beautiful sight. The 1972 worlds fair was in Spokane. South of Spokane is Pullman, the city that has Washington state university in it. Home of the cougars, arch rivals of the University of Washington Huskies.

I noticed you didn't mention the Tri City area... Set in the South Eastern part of the state with it's 3 Rivers (Yakima, Snake and Columbia) intersecting there. The cities are Pasco, Kennewick and Richland. A growing area and has it's own beauty. Wine country nearby.

| Re: eastern Washinton - the other state I think I just did... I do know about that area and the good places to live or not live... what things cost etc... my friend staying with me has been looking for a house there since July... so we go there often and stay days at a time driving around. I think i know my way around there better than I do here.

I'd like to check out Spokane once the weather breaks. They seem to have low apartment rents, and I'd suppose access to the wilderness is easy .... I remember reading about some nice trail that goes into Idaho. Maybe I'll spend a few months enjoying the fleshpots of Seattle again then move on to Spokane. |
