skagit county

An hour north of Seattle is skagit county. This counties claim to fame is the tulip festival in april. There are sprawling fields of tulips, making the ground look like a carpet of color. You can tour by car or choose several farms to tour up front and personal.

Outside of this festival, Skagit county is best known for its natural beauty and country feeling.

When there, a trip through LaConner is recommended if you like antiques and a very cool town. The not to miss spot there is Nasty Jacks. They have furnature there that is very cool.

West of the tulips at the end of hwy 20 you will find the town of Anacortes. To get there you will pass the turn off to go to Whidbey Island. see my whidbey post for this day trip. Anacortes is one of the launching points for whale watching. That is a lot of fun.

The heart of skagit valley is Mount Vernon and burlington. They combine to be the largest cities in the area. It's a nice area, but not as nice as the other areas in my opinion. Whether living there or visiting, this is one nice area.

Do it in the summertime. If you like nature and big city live, well we got it all! There are three daylong trips that will leave you jaw dropping. In the next day or so I will post the other two trips to add to the whidbey Island trip (that trip includes skagit valley).

Makes me homesick for warm weather!

Nasty's is an antique store in steroids.

When you get into town, the road turns left to take you along the tourist part of town. Right at that turn on the right is a 2 story building. The whole building is nasty jacks.

If there you will find everything from bins of skeleton keys to boxes of old time magazines (got one for the week I was born (1807)

From there you find the real treasure in furnature. Old pieces that have been restored, bedroom, dining room livingroom, then there are pieces that are one of a kind, at one point that had an old western style bar. It's just a cool place all around.

Worth the trip for sure.
