Northshore, seattle suburb area

For people wanting to relocate to Seattle, the options for living outside the city include the northshore area.

Northshore so named because this area extends north and east of the northshore of Lake Washington.

Kenmore (means "by the Lake") is almost entirely a bedroom community. Home in the area range from being built in the 50's to new. Most of Kenmore is situated one of two hills with the sammamish slough separating the town. The slough offers a connection between lake washington and Lake sammamish. This area is heavily treed and there are very few new style housing developments.

Bothell is a very old town, incorporated in 1909. This was earlier than most all cities on the eastside and northshore. What made this town exist was the sammamish slough. High School students from Bothell would take a boat to school (15 miles over water). Bothell has a small old downtown and has resisted the major mall idea. This city now houses part of the University of Washington. The home in Bothell range from old quaint homes that are traditional, then the neighborhoods branch out from there to areas of older 1970's box homes to the high end 3 car garage 3,000 sq. ft. homes with views of the Olympic mountains. Bothell is considered a bedroom community and is a very nice area in general

Woodinville is the up and coming city in the Northshore. With a compact downtown, the addition of a large movie theatre, target and a nice shopping area make this a modern hub of activity. Most all of the homes in Woodinville are to the east of downtown in the hills. These homes run for a few areas of 1960's and 70's boxes, but for the most part the homes in Woodinville are high end... street of dreams high end in some cases. Woodinville lives up to the name if that there are trees everywhere. A large storm in December 2006 wiped out most of the power lines, phone and cable for the city. Power was out for a week.

If you work in Seattle and want to relocate to a nice area, I would put these areas high on your list for homes.

Thanks for the history on the area!!!

Love Woodinville... just wish I could afford those high end homes! I hear there are a lot of "Sports Figures" that live there.

Don't know about now, but it used to be that Woodinville and Mercer Island were the two hot spots for the seahawk player.
