| Shopping in Washington State
I don't know of many malls in WA.. the big indoor kind. I do know of South Center Mall in Tukwilla I believe. The Super Mall in Auburn (not very super if you ask me), Bel Square which I like best. There is one in Evertt I believe but I have never been there and can't remember the name. Does anyone else know of any others? Not the outside type, but a real Mall?

Shopping? Did someone say shopping? One of my favorite hobbies! We over here on the cold side of the state have indoor malls. Spokane Valley Mall and Northtown Malls are both indoor malls with food courts and all that....Downtown has River Park Square which is kind of an indoor mall with overhead skywalks (enclosed) that you walk through to get to other stores that are on other streets. Pretty cool!

First, the one in Everett is the Everett Mall. Pretty dumpy if you ask me. The super mall in Auburn is anything but super in my opinion. Ones that you missed. The Alderwood mall. If you have not been there in the past two years, you are in for quite the experience! The mall has been redone inside and out. They added an outdoor mall that is similar to downtown disney at disneyland. Really nice to walk through on a warm summer night and listen to the music and window shop. They also added a theater that is the largest on the west coast. Yeah, it's HUGE. Add parking garages, and this mall is now approaching the level of Bell Square. Bell Square is the premium mall though. Gotta add weslake center mall, not huge but is the best Seattle has to offer. Bellingham has the Bellis Fair mall, nice by pretty typical. Seatac mall in Federal way, large and getting larger. Capitol mall in Olympia, been a while since I've been there, so can't tell you much about that one. I am not sure if you would consider Redmond town center in the list. It's outdoors on purpose, but really is like a large indoor mall. But the crown jewel of all malls has to be the totem Lake Mall. Built on a swamp, they spent months pounding wooden poles into the mud to give the mall a solid base. Past Home of such retail giants as Ernst Hardware, Lamonts and payless drugs, this mall is the only mall that you can go to on december 24th, get a front row parking space and walk the mall without seeing one other person. Oh, the biggest draw for the mall is CompUSA and Old Country Buffet.

If you think about it, Pike Place Market is a sort of classier mall, much of it indoors on several levels. And nearby is little tiny Westlake .... Center? I think it's Westlake Center. I used to feed the pigeons out in front of it, and sometimes the bums, and I'd run through that water thing like a little kid. Some people say that old age is like a second childhood. They have some of the finest MSG-laden Asian fast food up in the food court.

But does anyone else notice that you can't get a decent pizza on the West Coast, except for maybe some of the chemical chain pizzas like Round Table? Malls, pretentious little pizzerias, whatever. Wood-fired, sheesh. If you want good pizza you'd better avoid the West Coast entirely and fly to anywhere in New York State, Joisey, or Massachusetts.

Plato, Yac just emailed me and asked me to demand that you STAY ON TOPIC! WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MALLS NOT PIZZERIAS!! I told him to get ******. I've heard east coast people tell me the same thing. Although I've heard mentioned several that they say come close. I can't remember the names right now but if I can recall them, I'll let you know. I'm not that much of a pizza person myself but if somebody can tell me of a good place, I'm willing to give it a try. I've always thought that Pagliacci's was relatively good. Back to malls. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned that the first actual mall in the U.S. was built "just north" of the Seattle city limits (at that time being N. 85th Street) in 1950. Yes, that's right, the Northgate Mall was touted to be the first actual "shopping mall" in the country. 1948 shot of what was rural farmland at the time: The Northgate Bon Marche, cira 1950 --'rocco

That is why you be 'da man! I totally forgot about that place, which is like so stupid. Remember the hospital that was there? I was born there. I heard that Yac is now the mod of Washington, and is not playing well with others. Have you had any pleasant exchanged with him?

Yeah, heard about monica's "moment" with the yac. In the old days, when a cop pulled over someone because they had one tail light burned out, they called it a "chippy" (aka, the TV show chips). That was pretty chippy. I would love to see this exchange. "I want to move to washington from California with my kids. Where is a good place to move." Washington is a great place to live and move to. I have kids... scratch that, that'f off topic. Your kids... scratch that, that's off topic. You are moving from California.... scratch that, off topic, not about washington. Ok. Washington is a great place to live, come live here with your family. It is a good place to live. This state is called Washington, but not washington DC... scratch that DANG! Anyway, sorry I missed this mall. Isn't there a mall over in Wenatchee? `rocco, you can modify your status if you want. Did not know that until a couple of days ago. You are status newbee. You should change that to something like The rock!

I am totally laughing about Totem Lake Mall!! However, I totally disagree about Round Table Pizza - that is some of the most pukiest pizza I have ever had the displeasure of eating. Garlic Jim's is not too bad. Jet City is pretty good... and there is a really good place in Seattle, and in Kirkland... what the frick is it's name.... argggh it's driving me crazy... it's right on the tip of my tongue... someone help me... Oh and Mad Pizza in Seattle is good... |

Jet City is pretty good. Never been to Garlic Jim's I'm sure there has to be some more hole in the wall places that are recommended. I just don't eat pizza that much to know. When I did, I usually went to Pagliacci's because there were two fairly close by and they weren't too bad tasting. I've only had east coast pizza two times and I wasn't that impressed ...probably the wrong places. --'rocco

leonardo's pizza in vancouver will remind you of east coast pie and the second-best pizza in the area is rocky's pizza in battle ground. the rocky's hot temper is pretty much to die for. |
