Re: U District

If you have a student at the UW, they will be living in this area either on campus, or off. This area will give you a slice if everything that you would think of regarding college life... the good, the bad and yes, the ugly.

With that said, on a warm summer evening the "ave" is teaming with life. The university book store is huge and with the number of coffee shops and eateries, it is a fun place.

Life is young there but there are many stories per year about problems are greek row where the frats are. No my cup of tea, but then again, I am ridiculously old...

Re: U District

Like any other part of Seattle, it does have some crime at night, but I don't think it was gangs. Of course you know enough to go out with others at night, and avoid alleys or parks.

Personally I didn't see much of anything really enticing in that area. I'd go there to walk on the Burke Gillman (sp?) Trail .... nice but crowded ..... and to go the hospital for the clinics or whatever. There are some unusual stores and eateries, and I'm sure lots of bars filled with enthusiastic undergrads. I think you can rent watercraft and have fun down on the lake there.

Re: U District

Thank you!! This is basically what I said over on the other forum - and this chick came in disagreeing with me and stating that if I thought it was sketchy, I must have come from a rural small town in the midwest.

I moved to Seattle from DC... not quite a small rural midwest town.
