Western Wyoming/Star Valley

1) A brief overview of Western Wyoming. The first shot is from the hills about 20 miles NE of Evanston ... or could be SE or NW as it all looks pretty-much the same for many miles in every direction except due south where the Uinta Range begins.

125 miles north begins Star Valley and a wonderfully scenic stretch of western WY that looks like this - and better - all the way into Yellowstone (which is due North) and beyond. This pic was taken near Smoot, Wyoming - at the south end of Star Valley.

Sure. I have lots - but there's always somebody in the pic. Everybody wants a pic standing at the tops of the world - or hanging from a chopper - and most landscape pics get boring after 20 years in the album.

Re: Western Wyoming/Star Valley

Yeah...I take a lot of landscape photos. I wish later that I had put one of the kids or the dog in the photo. They do make nice background on the Monitor. I also use them to paint from. I don't get the time to paint on location...so I take photos and paint from them.

I love that second photo Wyody. Didn't think Wyoming got that green. The two photos contrast each other. Can we see more photos please? Pictures really do give you a feel for a state. We need more pics of states on the site. Taken by folks who have been there or live there.

That's a pretty common thought. Here's the problem. Unless somebody is specifically touring in Wyoming and visiting the sights, they are probably just going through. I-80, I-25, and I-90 all go through some of the drearyist areas in the state. haha You have to get off the beaten path to see the sights that we are used to.

Absolutely right WY53! I-80 is the weariest part of the whole state. I-25 isn't much better. Trust us folks - there's some stuff here that'd make Alaskans feel right at home!

At the north end of Star Valley is the town of Alpine. Here's a shot of one of my "offices" near Alpine

Izzy, I don't use offices like this anymore. That business went down by surprise due to an executive decision by then president Reagan. It's one of those things that's strictly between Ron and me. After that, my offices became a truck or two & a motel room. My wife and I didn't know each other then. Now, my office is always in my house ... or real close to it.
But, in the offices like you see in the pic, there's a half-million dollars worth of 12V computer equipment in there (80's prices), radio-hookup to half the world and a little-teeny chrome box where I'd push a button and blow something up up to 3 miles away! Stress-reliever to the max! And I usually had it moved by chopper 2 or 3 times a day - often to different Rocky Mountain Tops.

Re: Western Wyoming/Star Valley

Now Wyody...either you're pulling my leg or there are things I don't know about you. Exactly what were you doing in the 80's? What was the something going up 3 miles. Wyody, are you leading me down a path again:)

O, it may or may not be true that I would ever be found leading you down a path but it may or may not be important for you to know that I almost never lie!
That being said, the cyber-waters down where I would lead you would be still ... then, rapid ... then still ... then rapid - there's a pulse to things, y'know?? I loved making really loud noises for a living. Do a "musician-thing" every now and then for the same reason. The field was called Geophysical Exploration. Subheading: Seismic. Subheading: Portable. Subheading .....Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-BOOM!!
Aw man, and after I promised myself I'd stop blowing up online!

'Twas not government. In Canada all companies share their data with the government - post haste! In the States, nobody shares nothing with nobody! (pardon my grammatical liberty).
And so, whatever major oil company paid for the exploration project - they're the onliest ones who know if that area looks like there might be oil. They can sit on that forever. I worked for Canadians for years who came to the states where they could sell their data-obtainment-operations in a competitive market. I kinda liked them Canadians. They paid really well. Drank all the beer though.
