Absolutely CG! For many years I had about 5 of those rides a day in all sorts of ships with a mess of former 'Nam pilots and one Korean-War Vet pilot. We spent many rides nearly upside-down in mock-battle with one of the other ships with our crews. My day started with breakfast/helicopter ride and ended with helicopter ride/beer!

Gotta tell this quick if I can. I was working an area known as DiamondFork - south of Provo Utah and east into the mountains. One of the pilots had just bought an interest in the company and started taking "shortcuts" mechanically. Came a morning he wanted me to go blasting on "Mollie's Nipple" (honest-to-God) in lightning. This meant taking myself and a few-man crew and climbing wet, gray, shaley granite in the rain ... pulling out yards of copper cap-wire, hooking up to 160 pounds of dynamite, blasting it by radio-signal in a lightning storm - while sitting about 25 feet away from the dynamite.
I said "Sure, just a minute", went and got my then-ladyfriend out of the office, took her, went and loaded the truck, drove from Utah to Lake Superior, rented a cabin on the lake (Silver Bay) and stayed for two weeks walking the beaches and forests of NE Minnesota.
Two days after I left, the pilot crashed the chopper - killing one and maiming a few. I would have been on that chopper - it crashed on Mollie's Nipple - a peak in DiamondFork canyon

Yikes...remind me to come to you when I need help with a decision
Seriously, that's scary...makes one realize how short life can be.

I lived in Duluth for about two years right out of high school. Silver Bay and the north shore are so beautiful and romantic.

I did like it. I hadn't been to the Great North Woods for any extended period before and it was a great, slow-paced vacation. Went back to work for the same outfit a couple of months later - with a fine promotion and a big payraise.
Years later, I got to spend a few months in Northern Minnesota - the ol' Iron Range. From Hibbing to Effie to Int'l Falls ... to places I don't remember and I got to know the Great North Woods from knee-deep to sky-high. What a great planet! So much to see - and almost all of it worth it, somehow.

International Falls...if I remember right, holds the record for the coldest temp in the continental U.S. Canal Park is still one of my favorite places...I love their boardwalk which follows the Lake Superior shoreline.

Wyody...did you know any of the people who were on the helicopter when it crashed?

Knew them all. A couple were friends. Most of these crews and companies operated as family - and any loss to one was considered a loss to all.

There is one good story to come out of it ... and I'll explain: There was this new fella on the crew. I don't know where he came from - I just came on one morning and there he was. He seemed a little ....slow. Like somebody had put something in his coffee when he was a child type of slow. Well, amid the panic and flying elbows during the auto-rotation down, a large battery that happened to be floating in the air laid his scalp back. It was not serious. They hammered it back out and sewed it back down. He wasn't slow anymore after that. Fixed him! Everybody else got a million bucks. He had to pay.
