| Cabin Fever
I just tanked up. Truck holds 146 gallons of fuel. I'm ready for a road trip. Any ideas? I've been just about everywhere in Wyoming, although I haven't been to Jackson. Would a road trip to the Jackson area be worth it?

| Re: Cabin Fever It is a really bad time of year to go to Jackson. Everybody and their brother is heading thru there - lots of conventions. My Doodlebugger convention is down in Alpine over the 4th - used to be mosty in Jackson but too much else going on up there. Wait til the kids are back in school or hit it next year in May.

Crap. Never been there. Been told to not go during the winter because of all the tourists, don't go during the summer because of all the tourists. Tell me. What day are tourists shut off and not allowed in? haha

Take yourself a trip - head toward Yellowstone - take the NE road that takes you near "Beartooth Pass" - this is one of the most incredibly awesome views I've ever seen - try for a day when it's at least partly-sunny. That black obsidian beartooth sticking out of the side of a mountain is just unreal - from the pass, you're actually looking at it from about 30 miles away - and it's real high elevation - even my truck breathing when I was up in there was a problem ... and it's a really isolated area of the park so take CB or some such - but you will never, ever forget that view. Then, drive - go to West Yellowstone if you want - or go ahead and drop down thru Moose and Moran into Jackson. The only thing about Jackson worth seeing is, about 15 miles before you get there, you'll be parallel with the Grand Teton! Go ahead and hit Jackson - drop in the Million-Dollar saloon and the Elkhorn (I think it's called), then, get outta there - drive south and take the turn-off to Wilson. Keep going toward Driggs - after a few miles, look up to your right - you'll see the Grand Targhee - it's an awesome sight as well. Take a little drive thru Swan Valley - go all the way to Idaho Falls if you want. Then, turn around and go home ... or keep coming - I'll tell you when to stop.

The PNW is beautiful this time of year!!!! You can head on out this way. Although we did get quite a storm yesterday. Sunny and hot one minute and pouring and cold wind the next, then again and again...till they told us to pack up at the Straberry Festival because they had Electrical and Hail storm warnings... We had a booth there and Sat did great but Sun it was slower due to the weather. But Summer is sure here!!! It is HOT right now!

Now this is going to sound funny to most folks, but not to a few of us. I have a lift pack. Before I go to bed, I lift myself up about 12 feet in a sling. That's where I sleep. So when I go, I'll just stop where I want and enjoy the night. This time of year, it's all good. Just makes a diff if you zip the sleeping bag all the way up, or just part way.

The first thing that comes to mind, old man, is that 2:35 a.m. trip to the john, that 5:30 a.m. wake-up from the dream (and trip to the john) and also that twice-a-month dream that goes something like "Linda .....Linda". But it does give me a brand-new visual on the word "slingshot". Thanks for sharing Fiddy-Three!

The 2:30 trip, I just roll over. haha Normally by myself. I know, I shouldn't go up on top by myself, but I do. You should always have a camping buddy. But I don't. I'd rather spend time on top, with just me and my maker. However, the critters don't always allow that. So I have a 3 pully system. I have a canvas pack and I lay down in it and then hoist myself up high enough that nothings going to rip my briches out.

| Re: Cabin Fever I just gotta love it. Just when I'm very sure that everybody thinks I'm a weirdo (I am), Someone comes by and takes the heat totally off me. Nice and warm up there I'd bet. I'm still roasting at 65 degrees here. Uh, just wondering Fiddy-Three, you take your side-arm up there with ya?

I actually thought Wyoming was talking about Jackson, MS, at first. Then I realized he was referring to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Oh well...I thought he might be taking a trip not so far away from our neck of the woods...or ocean.

| Re: Cabin Fever I used to own a business building post frame steel buildings. I picked my posts up in Whitewood South Dakota. In the Black Hills. If you've even been up this way, you'd find that gas in the Black Hills during the summer, is about $ .30 a gallon higher then anywhere else. Seems every time I went after posts, I'd need fuel when I hit the Hills. So I put a big enough tank on to make the round trip and not have to worry. Course, it was kind of overkill. I can now cruise about 2500 miles on a tank. haha Everybody gives me a bad time when I have to fill it. "Look at what it cost!!!!!" Hey, I get 18 mpg. If I have a small tank, I get 18. If I have a big tank, I get 18. I just don't have to fill up as often. Plus, I can watch fuel prices. When they drop, I tank it up. I currently have enough fuel to run til December.
