Re: big boomers

It thundered a lot, but not a drop of rain. Fire is still going. It's in a canyon that is vertually impossible to walk into. So everything is being done by helo.

Is this a forested area or are we talking ground-brush like sage and rabbit and "scroak"?

When I went out to Idaho last sept you could see the smoke an haze in the eastern side of Montana from the Wyoming fires, North of Yellowstone I believe, was dry then to.

Re: big boomers

Last time I was in Minnersoda, I was gone for 7 weeks and everything back in the Rockies was burning up - forest fires everywhere! When I finally got back home to the mountains north of Salt Lake, I'd passed through many miles of devastation.
Then, there was one year - a good friend had just passed and we went to two outdoor concerts in his "honor" - Moody Blues and CSN. Couldn't hear it over the music but there were seven different fires burning in sight on mountains all around - big ol' planes dropping retardant and chopper after chopper dropping buckets. That was one heck of a light show!
I've been in two fires. One in the 'Glades for which I received a letter of some kind from Nixon and another in Utah - which we started down by LeVan (spelled backwards - navel - the center of Utah) - because one of our V.P.'s made a deal on some primer-cord for our blasting and it caught the hill on fire - only burned 63 acres - we had it out in about 32 hours.
53, that's a great pic - I'd be worried I think if that house were mine. I can't exactly recall the location from your directions - been too long since I've been up there - but I gather your gist.
(That's what I went to college for ... gist-gathering).
Peace

Re: big boomers

You head south of town til you hit the Big Horn "Y". Head to Big Horn, and just beyond you'll find this canyon.

I tried this in my head, 53, but ended up in downtown Ucross - never even been in Ucross before - always turned before or went straight toward Personna ... I mean, Gillette.
Don't know how I did that. I'll try again ......... Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

Re: big boomers

Watching the noon news on KOTA which is out of Rapid City South Dakota. They've had several viewers call in about the smoke wanting to know where the fire is in the Black Hills. It ain't. It's over 200 miles away. That picture I took is the fire. It's causing air alerts in Rapid City.

Re: big boomers

They were showing shots of it on CNN this morning - it is most nasty. Heard any good North Dakota jokes lately?
