| Re: It's that time PDX, not to worry. In Wyoming, beer is water ... matter of fact, forgive me for not capitalizing Beer (been in Oregon a while now). A Wyoming hunter on beer is not a problem. Some of them Utah boys can be a problem but it's mostly the California boys on beer that have given this "art-form" a bad name. In Wyoming, better on the beer than off. Safer that way. Besides, they all fall down fast anyway once they start chasing anything edible.

| Re: It's that time Okay, now that he's gone, let's talk about 53. Real JuiceHead, eh? Out hunting. Loaded for "Broad-side-of-the-Barn". Hope that bull is in a good mood - hate to seen 'im turn on 53 - fella might not be up to speed from his latest go-'rounds. Ahem ... this is when the opportunistic males hit the bars - looking and hoping for those "I only cheat once in a lifetime" hunting-widows. Ciao

| Re: It's that time I just don't figure 53 as the laptop type-o-guy. Perhaps they didn't spy any quick-elk and maybe got themselves what we in Wyoming call a "Slow Elk" already and called it good. More comfortable that way. I think the rest of y'all know our "Slow Elk" as cows.

So, is that a "Yeah" or "Nay" on actually pulling down a big ol' Elk? Should be some way to make use of that big Cat that's running around there - he/she probably knows where the Wapiti are hanging. Laptop? You? Really? How ....... un ... Wyoming ... ish!

| Re: It's that time Well, Hot-Diggity-Doo-Right!!! That's Cool! In Wyoming, that means the grandkids get new shoes maybe even before Christmas 'cause the meat's laid in and surely there'll be a couple of serviceable deer come along to vary the diet a little. Maybe a few more fish for the freezer while you can, as well. Also gives the more craft-oriented something to do with the long, oil-lamp nights coming all together to make one feel every bit like they were sitting in a cave, a warm igloo - all snowed in and things howling outside the window - Raise the canvas flap and grab another frosty cold-one - that's what the glove on the table by the window is for. Can tell it's snowing too just by what's on your glove when you bring it back in - without ever even looking outside - and sit and work that hide, whittle on those teeth and bones to make tools to work the leather with and bind the handles for the season, pull the Ivory and make a wish ... ... Makes one wish they would've walked the high-desert a little more last month to pick the Prickly-Pear blooms ... hey, maybe Panterro can send you some giant ones from Texas(?) ... Just the very idea, 53 - is cool. Congratulations!! Gut-shot?

| Re: It's that time Good shot! I prefer open sights unless I can go prone - best scope in the world doesn't help if the spidey-hairs is twitchin' all over the beast. I recently got gifted some elk-meat. It's old ... but I think I'll pull it out and eat some red-meat soon - and in your honor. And for the pagan-at-heart; the Creator proudly gives us these animals so that they can proudly give themselves to us so that we can figure out how to proudly give of ourselves next.

For supper it was roasted (on open fire) back strap, bar-b-q'd baked beans, fried tators and some collards. (always gotta have a little green in every meal) Chased it down with Lemonaid. What'd you have Ody?

| Re: It's that time Dub, that sounds like a fine meal. Well, my Doc called me up yesterday after I posted and asked me to come in. Of course, I was all up for that so I went in - coughed up my co-pay right there on the co-pay-person's desk and then "went on back" to find out he only called me in so he could kick my a**. So, I didn't have the Elk last night - kind of plan to have it over the weekend - but if Doc finds out he's probably gonna make a house-call next time he wants to kick my a**. So, anyhow, for dinner last night we nuked a small vegetarian pizza - with only some of the stuff on it that I shouldn't eat - and tried to make that last. Man, it was small. Finished out the evening devouring a half-bag of some kind of nasty ol' crackers made for people who wear bike-shorts and actually fit into them - like, they're too skinny for Spandex!! Tonight, in lieu of Elk (oh, my mouth is watering), I loosely plan to have ... I should write a book on this ... get Bela Lugosi to star in the movie ... Chicken Patties! Chicken patties with no chicken. With no dairy or egg. With no Soy. main ingredient? Myto-protein. (Good God, it comes from fungus!) (there's a fungus amongus). Not only that, it's a little too high in calories!! I'm not sure I'll like it. Since I went to eating weeds, the only meat I have taste for any more, so far, is fish. The other stuff tastes all wrong - beef, pok, cheekin. Even had some fake-turkey the other .... oh, I see I'm taking off on your thread here. Sorry. Elk! The "other" Red meat. Hoe into it, by God!!

I'm getting there..... I have 4 or 5 different wood piles going. Yesterday, I was just finishing up with the wood when my friend showed up with a pickup and trailer. The last picture show's what he dropped off. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have never eaten elk, or pheasants. I have had deer. But they must of cooked it wrong because it tasted really gamey. Does pheasant have to be cooked in a certain way? We have lots of wild turkey around here. In fact I have to have the kids chase them out of the neighbors veggie garden. They are elderly and the turkeys come in their yard by the dozens to eat up the garden. Buying a Butter Ball for our gang usually a 24 pounder. If I can find it. Izzy

Do you stuff your bird? We have a local saugage company called "Lockeford Saugage" pretty well known locally. I buy their Apple saugage and use it in my stuffing. Izzy
