Moving to Gillette, Wyoming area?

My husband and I are considering moving out to Gillette, Wyoming area from central Illinois. He is thinking about transferring to the coal mine out there. Does anybody have any information on the area, nightlife, is it a safe place to live? Or is another surrounding town a better place to move to? I work in healthcare, and we are in our thirties and have no children, only pets. Please don't give me websites, I've already looked at all of them. I would like personal opinion from people that have lived there a long time, and people that have lived there a short time.
Thanks!!

Re: Moving to Gillette, Wyoming area?

Gillette is a nice town. But Wyoming is a little different State then a lot of others. It's wide open state. There are no towns around.

Moorcroft 28 miles East of Gillette. Very small town.
Wright 40 miles South of Gillette. Even smaller town.
Buffalo 69 miles West of Gillette.

That's the three closest towns. With our white out, ground blizzards, even 28 miles to Moorcroft is shut down and the Highway patrol won't let you through.

Lots of jobs in the mines, they pay well. Have you been on Wyoming at work website? It lists all the jobs, pay, benefits, descriptions, etc...

Likewise, there's a website for all the apartment houses in town. But you said you didn't want any websites.

Housing is real hard to find. I'm talking extremely hard to find.

Can't tell you about the nitelife, but there's no place in Gillette I wouldn't walk at night. It's a safe town.

There's lots to do there, lots of nice restaurants.

Right now Gillette is in a Boom cycle and is overwhelmed with people coming into town. That's why there's an extreme housing shortage.

Schools are exceptional. People are nice.
