Yes, I put cilantro in mine.

Quick story. In St Pete, I entered 2 salsa's. A hot and a mild. At my booth, I printed up 500 copies of both recipes. They picked up a little plastic cup of each and wrote my numbers on the bottom, put them in a cooler and went on. Later, they had the judges taste them. then we had a big get together so they could hand out prizes. I got 3rd place for my hot and 1st place for my mild.

One of the judges was a French Chef from Paris. He has several restaurants over there. He called me aside and offered me $500 for the recipe and permission to use it in his restaurants under my name. Now, he could have just went to the booth and picked up a copy. I took his $500 and signed his papers. haha Now I have to get to France to see if he's actually serving it under my name. haha

And no, I no longer hand out the recipe.

RATS!! You knew that was my next question! It must be good. It's really difficult to find good salsa anywhere that has cilantro in it, I've been trying ever since we left Texas.

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

WY53, I had some friends start their 'maters inside - this was in Riverton - and set the buckets outside when the time came. They got a few. Back in the east, I was a "mater-man" - and also down in FL where there are maters grown year 'round. In the Rockies, I just wrote them off after a couple of years. I'll say a blessing for your crop this year.

Izzy - Guess I'll learn how to multi-quote some day. Between 53 and myself, we've probably stood on or walked every inch of Wyody (anachronym for Wild, Windy Wyoming). For me, growing up in a midwestern city and living a midwestern life for some time, Wyoming was a dream come true - as was Montana. First I got to work it - starting with the Tetons and Gros Ventres (pron: Grow Vons) and the Snake River Range then spreading to the Absarokas, the Natronas and the Big Horns, Commissary Ridge, The Wind Rivers, the Salts, the Uintas (actually in Utah) and the Snowy Range ... and then, I got to live it. Never meant to but it worked out convenient for being a weekend Dad. 53 lives in an area of great historical significance insofar as US history and Buffalo country go. I lived in an area better known for mountain-men being frozen in the snow. People still get frozen there occasionally. Wyoming is a fine state to spend a lot of time in - but one really needs to know a few things about mountain safety.

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

Hey guys...my ex lives in Kalispell, MT and I lived there for about a year. I was fortunate enough to be able to live the 'ranch lifestyle' during that time and we rode horses ALL the time. We took the horses up to a mountain range called the Cabinets? That's all I remember about where we went as it was a few years ago...does anyone know exactly where the Cabinets are?

Come to think of it, I think riding on those mountain ledges is where my fear of heights started.

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

The only part of the Cabinets I know anything about is dropping down from Libby Montana which is just north of there. Not unusually high elevation for those parts - think they're about 8000ft at the top of Snowshoe and valleys just above 3000 ft. The entire area is wilderness but other than drive-thrus, it's not an area where I've gotten to spend a lot of time. Now that I'm up in the NW, the Blackfoot Tribe operates a ... retreat/school/seminar not too far from there every fall - and I may get to go next year and will check it out if I'm close at all.

The majority of the Cabinet Mountain Range run within a triangle of Libby, Clark Fork, and Bonners Ferry to the north. Although I know where it's at, I'm like you, haven't spent much time in that area.

Thanks, Wyoming...I'm pretty sure we were up near Libby. It's been so long, but Libby rings a bell. I still can't believe I had the courage to ride a horse on a mountain trail that seemed about as wide as my foot!

Darn! I love salsa. My mom worked many years in Mexican Cafes. I would grow peppers and tomatoes...then the cooks would use them to jar salsa...we would split the jars. They made the best salsa. Don't care for cilantro though.

Okay...If you're not giving out the recipe...could you recommend a recipe...that is in a book or printed somewhere? You must of try other folks recipes along the way...point me in the direction of a good recipe. Please

Izzy

Ok, you folks broke me down. I posted one of my recipes in the Food thread in community lounge.

This one is my favorite that I mainly make for here in the house. It's very quick and easy, about 10 minutes of work and it's in the fridge. Simple things you buy right off the shelf at the grocery store.

Enjoy.

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

Here in Sheridan, the white stuff is dwindling. It was 51 today and we had a 3 or 4 mph wind.

Of course, the yard is a soup sandwich because the ground is still frozen. Only about 4 inches of soil is thawed and it's saturated. So all the good moisture is running down the street.

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

Hey, Wyody, got a question. I forgot what comes next after the snow all melts?

You know in Wyoming we don't have thermometers. The way we do it is we let the dog outside for 3-4 minutes. If you have to bust him loose from the tree, it's cold.

Actually, today was 55 degrees, no wind. tomorrow is supposed to be the same with a little rain. that will end the dreaded white stuff in the driveway. See, I told everybody it would go away, I didn't have to shovel it.

Poor dog. Do you really have a dog? Hey, once when I was in Wyoming...I put my bare hand on the car and it stuck:) There was no snow on the ground but the wind was blowing real hard.

Now in the fall the wind will blow all the leaves away and you won't have to rake those:)

I've always said, "It don't snow in Wyoming. It snows in Montana and blows across to Colorado."

Or

"Snow don't melt in Wyoming, the wind just blows it around till it wears it out."

Sorry, forgot to answer your question on the last post. Yeah, I do have a dog. Well, at least I think I do. I put him out in October and forgot about him. When I remember about an hour later, I couldn't bust him loose. But I take water out every day and food. He doesn't appear to be real hungry though. He just stares at me.

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

In Sheridan, a little drizzle, maybe a sprinkle, temps in the mid 40's. Had some gusty wind for an hour or so. Kicked back in my chair and the wind was gone when I got up an hour later. All in all, a nice day. Tomorrow is supposed to be better yet.

Sheridan has just a sprinkle of clouds. It's 52 degrees, winds are 9 mph. It's getting closer to good fishing weather every day.

Sorry about the short absence.

Sheridan for the last couple days has been shorts and t-shirts. Low to mid 60's. Supposed to rain this evening. Yeah, like that's going to happen. It's been so dry around here we can't remember what rain is.

53 - Glad to see your voice again!
I've been wearing shorts and being barefoot about half the time here since we arrived at the Oregon coast. Not full time as there has been a touch of frost and a skiff of snow once or twice. Folks lookin' at me like I'm crazy (if they only knew) and me just looking back like they're friends of mine. Even at the beach today we didn't need our jackets - and it's often windy-cold there.
Glad you're not in the blizzards! And again, welcome back!

Re: Weather data for Wyoming

Well, I had to chain up my tenny runners. Wednesday it started to blow. By noon we had about 8 inches of snow stuck to the sides of the houses. It was in the 30's but blowing and snowing.

Total between Wed, Thur, and Frid, we got 37 inches of snow. I took lots of pictures. Will post them first chance I get.

Listened to the scanner and the snow plows and road graders were getting stuck here in town trying to keep the roads opened. All schools closed, court house closed, business' closed, airport closed, all for three days.

Now it's Sunday and the temp is back in the 50's and everything is soggy and getting worse.

Watch weather real close. When the storm is getting close, make one final run to the liquor store and stock up.

Makes sure 12 volt tv is working so when power goes out, you can still watch tv. Also, bring lots of wood in the house.

Mix drink and peek outside. Yup, still snowing. Go back and set in easy chair and sip whisky and watch tv.

Repeat as necessary.

Hey 53,

It's been about 4 days since your big storm...how is the weather conditions in Wyoming? Has everything turned to mud or did you get more snow? Or did you run out of Whisky?

Weather is nice since the storm. It's actually hit 70 a day or two. Today, it's in the low 60's so it looks like winter might be over for the most part.

Will have to get somebody to mow the lawn next week. When the snow melted off, it was green underneath. Figure that one out. haha

53, I wonder if you're like me at all this way? We put up with so much, weather-wise, in Wyoming and it rarely gets any media attention (cause the media either ain't there or they're frozen underground).
And when the weather hits the east coast, I chuckle. Then I chuckle some more. Then, I'm rolling on the ground in a fit of hilarity. Then, I feel a little guilty as I'm e-mailing the relatives asking if they're all okay.
Ever happen to you?

What is hot springs county like? I noticed the real estate is real cheap. Well compared to New England anyway.
