Storm on the Tetons

The Teton range is a N-S range that begins about 15 miles NW of Jackson, WY with the impressive Grand Teton. This is on the road you will take to Yellowstone. The Jackson airport sits in front of the Grand Teton. Click on photo to enlarge.

Re: Storm on the Tetons

Yeah, we got lots of snow, -30 temps. People died in their cars. But did it make the news? No. Did FEMA show up? No. Did we complain? No. We just took care of one another.

I live in Sheridan and we had a cold spell and power went out. I had three neighbors camped on my living room because I had a fire place and we could stay warm. Maybe I should call FEMA and see if they'll send me a credit card for $2000 and a new trailer. No, don't even know their number. Wouldn't want to put them out.

-30? I have experienced -30 around Snowville, Utah as I was driving through. It was sooo cold that my car heater was blowing cold air. I had to wrap myslef in blankets as I drove. I thought I had cracked a head, or something, but it was just so cold that the car could not produce enough heat.

Re: Storm on the Tetons

It's so normal to have nasty snow and cold temps that it never makes the news.

My big point was that a week ago, Colorado got hit bad. They sent the National Guard out to try and rescue people. But did FEMA show up or offer any support? No. People died, but did anybody show up to help other then the local National Guard? No.

Fend for yourself. I had never heard of FEMA before LA. Never heard of them sense, other then articlles saying how bad they screwed up. I have a friend that went to work for FEMA after Kidrena. he worked for them 1 week and quit because of the politics.

Re: Storm on the Tetons

Because of our relative isolation and low-density population, events here are often not reported nationally.
In the Rockies, Denver is the only urban area with a historically high population. Salt Lake is catching up somewhat but will experience limited growth due to the geographic feature of being in a "closed" valley - however, combined with Ogden 35 miles north and Provo 30 miles south, the population of the general area will continue to rise. Salt Lake and Denver, however, are not as high in elevation as we are in Wyoming.
People here know that we have to take care of each other because there is nobody else to do it for us. Makes for a good "family" feeling. I commend you Wyoming53 for taking folks in. It's how we do things here and it's just another good reason for moving to Wyoming.

Don't know what sort of vehicle you were driving but this is a common experience even for those heading out of Salt Lake toward the open spaces. Many people with trucks or jeeps or vehicles with those wide radiator-grills will put a piece of cardboard in front of the biggest part of the radiator to block all that cold air and to prevent freeze-ups.

Yeah they'll send you a credit card for 2000 and then they'll give you a mobile home. Are you gonna spend your money on hookers, trips to Hawaii, abortions and alcohol? If not you can't get one.

One for the Hawaii-trip, please - and maybe I can use the hookers for the "dance-troupe" for my next band ... and so, maybe better throw in the abortion-tickets too ... not my "cup o' tea" but I hate it when a dancer goes down. While you're at it, I realize that if it's a trailer that can be moved easily then, might not have to pay the "dancing-hookers" as much per show.
